I have an elderly friend John (86) with a KN7000 want to know if the following is possible to do. Can KN7000 owners give me an answer to the following question please.

QUESTION. John wants to use a lower keyboard to trigger the Accomniment & lower voice of the 7K. The lower will not be used to produce any sounds, but just midi to trigger the 7K. If this can be done what is the procedure to set-up the 7K please.

The Tyros. PSR2100. 9000 & 9000Pro has a Chord detect setting giving an option to set the channel required.
On the above models you set the Upper board left key-split at last note on the left, this enables you to use the full length of the upper board for Right Hand voices. The lower board then using its full length takes care of Accomniment & lower voice from the upper board anywhere over its full length.

hi I am not sure exactly what you mean but the pianist mode allows accompaniment for the full length of the keyboard with the right hand voices only
take care

Hi Graham,

Yes this can be achieved. I use a MIDITECH MT-61 controller as a lower keyboard and a MIDI pedal board so that the KN7000 effectively becomes a full organ with 2 x 61 note keyboards and a 13 note pedal board. MIDI outputs from the MT-61 and Pedal board are combined in MIDIMAN 2x2 merge unit and fed into the KN7000.
You can use the split function in the the manner you described to set the upper keyboard to play only the R1 and R2 parts. Then by selecting Program Menus, MIDI and Part Setting on the KN7000 you can assign the left hand part and chords to the MIDI channel corresponding to the lower keyboard. You can also use the octave setting to optimise the range of the lower keyboard.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Cheers
Len C.

manorcourt1991. Thank you for your prompt reply to the question. Its sounds like John can set the 7K to do what he asked for.

Hi Graham

Do you happen to know if the same holds true for the PSR2000? I am trying to get involved in MIDI and its all Greek to me.

Thanx

Scott

Scott. Yes you can set this up with the 2k. One of the Yamaha demonstrators had added a lower keyboard (PSR290) to the Tyros at the 7 day Keyboard Festival this past April. I am thinking of doing this with my 9000Pro.
(The PSR290 has now been replaced by PSR292. I can get this discount in UK for £169 Pounds).
No sounds are used from the 290, so the board can be placed in a shelf arrangement under the upper keyboard so just the keys are showing (we don't need to get at the buttons) The Acc & lower voice of the upper board can be triggered anywhere along the full length of the lower board plus you can use the full length of the upper board for right hand voices.
I like the idea of making a double manual board for very little outlay. I have a picture somewhere if I can lay my hands on it of Tyros + 290
