I'm still looking for something to add to my PX560 for home play. I've got this new laptop and wonder about a VST that would work with my laptop.

Also, I still toying with adding the Roland BK7m in place of a VST.

Thoughts?

I should give credit where credit is due. I really don't expect a VST or BK7m to do anything close to what a Ketron SD40 or SD90 can do...but I can't justify either of those unless I'm performing with them.

That most likely won't happen as long as I have the Genos.

I have BIAB for styles and backing tracks,also available in VST, sample libraries like Sampletank or Kontakt for additional sounds. There are thousands out there.

You are suggesting 2 totally different things..

- one is a soundsource only (vst) ..
- the other is an arranger module..(and a sound module)

Ask yourself what you miss most in the Casio
-is it the styles that fall short?
-or are it the sounds?

If you answer that, you have your answer..

By the way, good sounds on pc don’t have to be expensive..
Even better, there are quite a few high quallity free vst’s in the synth department..

And if you want great sounds almost for free, and own an ipad, walk that way...

My guess is that (As with almost all Casio's since the mid 00s) he is probably thinking that the styles are falling short.
I would get BIAB or some other style playing VST thing.

A 2ndhand BK7m is great! Maybe even a secondhand SD40 could do!
My choice would be a module for styles, and not all the hastle with computer gear (Coming from a 28 year old, lol)

In general i think both him and me want the all in one option thats not available anywhere, a not to heavy mobile 88 key totl arranger workstation... that can fully function as a stagepiano, aa a synth workstation and as an arranger

I remember some years ago searching for the same thing, and ended up buying a Clavinova CVP. I gave to my wife after lugging it a few times, but it would stay in the venue for a month or so. I had an arranger(sort of), and a piano. I was playing churches mostly, and it was fine for that. You couldn't get too deep on the arranger side, but I didn't care then. My wife loves it.

Bachus the Korg Havian 30 (RIP) had style editing/creation and more extensive arranger features than the Clavinova, the PX-560, or the BK-7. IMO it didn't sell well because it was poorly marketed. A Pa700-based piano would fill the niche you describe. My $.02.

But if you are used to high end like the pa4x, tyros, genos..
The arranger engine is definately a step back..

And while the added piano sample was great (same as the pa4x) all the other sounds where lower level pa300 entry level arranger.. and there where no multi pads..

But i agree compared to PX-560, or the BK-7 the havian is the better arranger..



A Pa700-based piano would fill the niche i described..
Only a Genos, SD90 or Pa5x piano would fill the niche i described..
The best of both worlds, and not a trade-off in the middle

Sadly Yamaha never made a stage variant of the cvp clavinova’s
And even the cvp 709 lagged the tyros5 because
-no multipads
-only stacking 2 voices
-no organ world
-no ensemble voices
-no aftertouch
-no pitchshift and modulation wheels

Altough, i must admit, on the piano side of things i must admit it was top of the line
- best piano sounds and engine
- best yamaha keybed at that time

I love the yamaha p515..

It comes with the yamaha piano partner app,
But its misding the arranger part of the csp series.

Currently I'm using my PX560 primarily as a piano to learn...well...piano. My PX560 is excellent(for the money) in this regard.

Still it would be fun to have better arranger styles and voices to experiment with on my PX560. That said, some of Casio's styles and voices are really quite good.

Apparently there is a new Casio sound engine coming out at winter NAMM that addresses some of the voices...perhaps styles as well?


Maybe wait to see?
