Over here in Holland
There is a Genos, 6 months old for sale
Its priced very good about 25% cheaper then a new one.

But it dropped on stage..
And there is a nasty dent about 1 cm in the side board next to the headset connector

Does this void warranty on the electronics?
Would you buy a keyboard in this state?

The price difference is huge..
But a drop like that can allways cause unsee damage that could be a potential killer..
I am seriously doubting what to do..
But its a lot of money, and i am sure i will not notice the dent while playing.

Buyer beware... There could be unknown internal damage...... And no warranty.....
And hard to ever sell later imo....
Buy a new one or a Ketron Sd9...
Or just wait..... what's the rush? Genos 2 can't be far off.

It's always a risk buying damaged equipment. I have purchased some with good results and great savings. I don't think, however, that I would want to spend a lot of money on a damaged keyboard. Do you have the ability to play it and look it over real good. I would think the Genos is a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment and who knows what a drop hard enough to dent it could do internally. Wishing you the best of luck on your difficult decision.

if the damage is just cosmetic and not too irritating to look at, and the seller was willing to let me hold back the money until I've tested the keyboard for about 14 days.
If no fault by that time, it's most likely as it should be technically.
If the 'nasty dent' is very visible and may cause problems if sell later, I would ask for less to pay.. also because elecronic warranty don't cover fall to the floor.
(That kind of damage is covered by the house and inventory insuranse if it happens to me.)

I dont expect any new totl arranger keys before summer, maybe a pa5x at musikmesse, but wont bevin shops before late autumn

I stepped away from the tought of ketron, there is just to many restrictions..even tough they have the best sounding onboard styles..

So why go for Genos?
- the interface is really intuitive
- there still is nothing like the sa2 and ensemble voices
- the number of user styles is incredible
- every time i played it, it seemed just perfect
And a whole long list.. v-console and all those other 3rd party tools standing high on it

I was hoping to import my backup stick with my old t5 stuff, but somehow the stick is unreadable in my pc. So i do need to start all over from scratch

And since i sold the pa4x this afternoon i am kind of in a hurry..

Frankly I’m surprised that you are even considering this offer. Probably the idea of Genos messes with our minds. I think it’s suspicious that they want to sell it so soon in the first place. And 25% off is not that impressive even for a perfect but used keyboard; partly for the very reason that you never know for sure the history of used things.

I also think that it can be an interesting challenge to be with no arranger for a while. Sometimes when I want something very badly I start to question whether there’s a lack of something in my life or on the contrary too much of it… and the answer is usually ambiguous...

I admire your honesty and strength of character. Your question has many variables, making it difficult to offer an applicable reply. Would I buy a knowingly damaged Keyboard? It depends on why I wanted it. (Use it for parts, have the skills to repair it myself... or have access to someone who does, believe the damage is so minor it would not affect it's playability, and the list goes on.)

Good luck, not matter the reason. Personally, I would always investigate (if possible, to understand the damage) then negotiate to make the potential risk more palatable... unless the "deal" is too good to refuse.

There are some data recovery tools, also some free stuff that you could try before you give up the USB stick.
Also remember if you bought any Yamahapacks, you can get them redowloaded for free in Genos format from your account page.

Just check it out thoroughly and I'm sure you will be fine. You have enough experience with TOTL boards to know if something is wrong or not. And if you plan to keep the Genos for a while then cosmetic issues are not so much of a problem for resale as an older board would be expected to have some of those.

Dont worry
I will only buy if the damage is just the outside dent
I will test the system toroughly
And have a tool with me to make sure that the bottom of the keyboard is not bent

I called yamaha and the small dent is no reason to void warranty in Holland

When you sit behind the keys the little dent is almost not noticable

If there is any doubt at all, i will not buy
And if there is no doubt, i will have made a great deal

What on pictures looked like a dent
Was just a big scratch, as if someone held the hot side of a soldering iron against it..

Also found out, that it didnt drop on stage, but someone drunk crashed into it, but it didnt fall.. for the rest the keyboard is in mint condition.. only cost me €500 to upgrade from pa4x to Genos...


Also found out on psr tutorial that there is a funtional test mode in Genos
While starting up hold registr mem buttons 1 3 and 5, and you enter a test mode
There are 61 different tests to test the Genos toroughly

So when i got home, i first did a system restore back to the orriginal settings..
After that i toroughly enjoyed the presets for almost 2 hours..

Now its dinner time, and after that i will start making my file structure so everything has a good place to be saved..and can easilly be found again.. if i learned on thing over time is that you need to have a good structured folder structure, or things will be chaotic in no time


For now i am the luckyest man in town with my new toy..
