Today in the small town of Weirsdale Florida the Mersey Beatles played at the Orange Blossom Opry a 600 seat venue that was converted from being a high school gym. All I can say is what a fabulous show.
These musicians are a Beatles tribute/knock off band. They played for 2.5 hours with a 15 minute intermission. The show is billed as a 50th Anniversary show since the first part of the show featured them playing the entire Abbey Road album that was recorded 50 years ago in 1969. The 2nd half featured the best hits of the. Beatles that included She Loves You, Hard Day’s Night, Twist and Shout, I Saw Her Standing There and about a dozen more of the Beatle’s best tunes. This group grew up and went to school in Liverpool. They had a 5th member on keys for quite a few tunes. I’m not sure what keyboard he was using because it was encased in a wood cabinet that looked similar to a studio upright piano.
For the first half of the show they were dressed and looked like the Beatles did post Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart’s Club. Then for the 2nd half they first came dressed as the Beatles you remember seeing on the Ed Sullivan Show. They change dress a third time and then looked more like the Beatles pictured in the Rubber Soul album.
Amazing in the fact if you closed your eyes you’d think John, Paul, Ringo and George were on stage. Their appearances are smiliar too. The 2nd half of the show had the audience up on their feet dancing while they sung their best danceable tunes. WOW is all I can say seeing this group play and seeing people aged mostly 60 and above was a lot of fun.
Check their web site and if they are coming to a town near you and you’re a Beatles fan ya gotta see these musicians. There are plenty of videos on You Tube of the band but those vids do not do the band justice.
