I just got back home from a mini 6 day 'East Coast Road Trip' with my wife visiting family and friends along the I 95 corridor - and leaving a 'donation' at the Borgata Casino along the way frown (but that's why they call it gambling) - and I've spent a couple of hours catching up with posts on S-Z, many of which I've read on my phone, but I like to listen to the songs posted when I get back to my PC ...
I REALLY hesitated to post this in the fear that some might think I am looking for praise or whatever when I post a performance, but having listened to a number of performances all at one time I could not help but notice the few number of comments posted relative to the number of 'VIEWS' that a post might have ... Now I've noticed this for some time and just 'chalked it up' to people not being interested enough in what is posted to make a comment, and that's fine ... but what got me curious is the fact that even folks who post their performances and acknowledge the comments they receive don't ever comment on others' performances ... and it doesn't always have to be 'nice job' or whatever, in fact I look forward to some constructive criticism ... and I get it that no one HAS to do so, but I just wonder why if others are courteous enough to comment on your performance, why people would not return that favor ...
Just curious, I guess ...

Good post Tony. I’ve wanted to say something similar for awhile now, but didn’t quite know to express it as well you did.

Tony, human beings are generally self-centered. I think we all fall into that category, in different degrees. When I post a song, the first thing I do is to look for the people who listened to it – and commented. That’s the human part of us that we try to hide. BUT, when we get rid of that and we listen to the music others have posted, we do enjoy it.

The quickest way to go nuts is to try and figure out other people. (smile)
Just saying, John C.

PS, Tony I wish you would rewrite your post again with a bit more clarity. I struggled to understand parts of it.

John, I couldn't agree more. Pretty damned smart for an old codger! smile

I may be wrong but it seems anyone with an internet connection
can look at SZ and read the posts but unless you are a member
there is no option to reply, maybe that`s why the views are greater than the replies.I used to do this a lot before becoming
a member.

or, maybe it's the Bambi syndrome .... remember what Thumper said?
"If you can't say somthin' nice ... don't say nothin' at all"
Sometimes I listen to a piece that I don't love, and rather than post negative comments, I decline to post any remark.

I have no problems calling a "spade a spade." Normally I'll just call it as I see it. No matter what profession you're in, you generally don't grow without feedback in some form. (but that's assuming you're looking to "grow")

The old saying: "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

I'd like to hear some more comments on WHY people DON'T post negative but helpful remarks on posted music. If you're a true friend, that's what you do.

I'll start it off. When something is really worth complimenting (like a lot of the stuff that members like Paul (Montunoman) , Don Mason, etc. do I have no hesitation in giving accolades.

But, the reason I, myself, DON'T make remarks on questionable music posts is because, in the Synthzone, it's the quickest way to circumvent the original book on "How to Win Friends and Influence People” and become prey to the book "How To Lose Friends and Infuriate People!"

I suppose the reason I don't criticize is I "accentuate the positive", trying to encourage people to keep at it. I have weak and strong areas, and am acutely aware of the former. OOH, if someone asks for critical feedback for improvement in a certain area, that is different. However, I think the biggest deterrent to posting music by most ,is being shot down, whereas applauding(sincerely) the strong points encourages further participation. Telling it like it is, according to their own opinion, should be used very judiciously.
