Gotcha !!!.......oldest trick in the book, shouldn't fall for that rotfl

Seriously though this is as you might have gathered about Songstyles. Their use and their abuse if you like. Personally I am not a great fan of songstyles but then I am not a gigging musician. If I go places and hear someone playing an arranger keyboard even at a distance I think: "that is no doubt a Yamaha keyboard" as Yamaha users have an incredible gamut of songstyles at their disposal. Now as a gigging artist they must be very welcome because the audiences want to be entertained and want to recognise their favourite popsongs, I always refer to it as the "feast of recognitio ". Nothing wrong with that but if you have an ARRANGER keyboard at your disposal it does offer the (extensive) options of ARRANGING. Korg even more so than Yamaha. As such I have uploaded a selection of popsongs that I arranged quite differently from the original over the last ten years, see link below for download. To me it offers the ultimate way of being creative with an arranger keyboard.
Incidentally all of these songs were recorded with Korgs ( PA80,PA800, PA1000). If you decide to download and listen , do follow up by giving your comments and ( construcive) criticism.

kind regards,
John

I think generic styles are better as they are not tied to a particular song.

John I have always been a fan of all your
"ARRANGER KB Remixes" thru the years and have told you that is your calling for sure.
You have a unique talent to take Classic 50's & 60's genre songs
which I love & grew up listening to, and arrange and perform them
with masterful vocals giving each your own signature stylings.
Would love to see you continue on that path now and bring us
more more more of you wonderful songs in that fashion. cool2

I understand how players/performers with real talent might abhor or avoid "song-styles"... but, as a songwriter with some pretty severe limitations... they are like a "Gift from the God's" for adding Intros, Middle Breaks and Outros... at least until a new song is ready to send to a "demo house" for a real musical treatment plus a vocalist with a great voice. No arguments here! I feel so lucky to now have a 970 (bought used from Don Mason) and you might be surprised how few listeners can differentiate between the 970 and a real band, musician or orchestra. (I know, most of you here have "ears" to die for! LOL!... and that is a gift!)

I'm only trying to get at least a few great songs created before the Grim Reaper shows up at my door... and would love to leave a lasting legacy for my Widow and Orphans.

John, this is a great topic... and I wish you the best of all things with your music.

----Dave

With pop songs, there is a definite expectation of familiarity by your audience. And song styles help you get those song specific riffs or instrument backings you may spend much more time creating on your own, often leading to midifile or mp3 file use. Depends on your focus and target audience whether you need them or not and how much of your music you want to create on your own vs having it done for you. Time becomes a factor here...
A lot of ethnic music is the opposite requiring types of styles used for most songs repeatedly.
