You know I'm a hard line "jazzer" and really don't like show tunes much.
But, I've always appreciated the incomparable talent of Johnny Mathis (he prefers to be called John) and the writing of Michel
Legrand. The other day someone sent me a clip of an appearance by John on the Johnnie Carson show, where he sang the Legrand song, "Pieces of dreams", where he held the last note an UNBELIEVABLE 29 SECONDS....live!
This clip stands as one of the premier live musical accomplishments of my lifetime. This is from the same writer who penned "What are you doing the rest of your life?" and "How do you keep the music playing?".
WOW! This is why I play.
