Chas opened up a Pandora's box for me....a folder of music I forgot I had.

I'm listening to this and reminiscing about what you can do with an arranger keyboard if you work it to the bone. I used the style, the advanced style, four variations, two fills, and even repeated some "intros and endings" over and over for a style variation.

Also, I've mentioned the Roland PRO-E a few times. That's what I did this recording with. What do YOU think of how I worked the "drum track" and what an older arranger is capable of?

Anything I post has always been done live on a cheapo recorder left running about 20 feet from the stage. That's why it's poor quality. I'm not good at using a Tascam at home. I play better "live." I never use MIDI files...everything I post is a one shot deal on stage.

Pretty interesting sound from such an older model. You got the most out of it and I bet an audience would like it too.
Can you record direct from your mixer?

The drums sound good, but I’m impressed with the vocals. I don’t think I’ve heard you sing before. I knew you have amazing fingers but I didn’t know you could sing like that too. Anyone who can sing and play well always has my respect!

Bill...to be honest, the last technology I got involved in was programming my DX7. I'm more of a player than a "sound" person. As for recording from the mixer, it's too clean IMO. I don't sound good "clean."

Vangelis....no wonder I hear the Technics being evangelized and canonized all the time.

Paul...you went right to the top of my list for "peer recognition!"

I'm seriously thinking of going down to my storage bin and taking out that PRO-E and playing around with it. I'm wondering how it sounds now by today's standards?

Mark, keep in mind that our audiences do not expect us to sound exactly like the original recording or artists - they expect us to sound like US! You did a great job with this and I'm fairly confident most audiences would give you high marks.

Good luck,

Gary cool

Yes, thanks for reminding me of that. As Popeye said..."I am, what I am, what I am!"

And that remark puts you right up there in my book of "peer recognition V.I.P Persons." I think I said somewhere else...the only real rating of your music performance comes from your peers. You could be delusional thinking you're another Bobby Darin, the audience will always be polite and clap to whatever you play, but the feedback from your musically trained peers is what counts!

BUT, no one here hasn't really arrived until they've received an Academy Award. In this case the AA being the "clapping hands" from the Godfather....Donnie!

Love that song Mark. You did it so GUUUD. You don't need no stinkin' rasp in your voice.

Thanks Paul. I can live a week on a compliment like that!

I paid my dues tenfold. When I was first starting out, they wouldn't even let me enter the "Awful Singing Competition." But I worked on it constantly. When I got the singing under my belt, it then took another 1-2 years to be able to sing and play at the same time. Then I went further. Another couple of years to be able to sing well AND, not just accompony myself with chords but to play an actual arrangement made up while I'm singing. That was really hard.... thinking in two modes at the same time. I have a couple of recordings where I did that. I'll post when I get a chance.
