...just a beautiful interpretation of a beautiful song born out of one of the darkest periods in American history. These beautiful and talented Indonesian kids do a fabulous job under the direction of Gwyneth Walker, clearly NOT Indonesian
. Of course practically every choir in existence has done this song (it lends itself so well to choral interpretation), some with exquisite arrangements rivaling the best and most complex jazz compositions. Though born out of the horror of slavery and becoming a staple in Black churches, it is a fine example of the power of MUSIC in promoting cultural diversity. For me, that's a good thing and much needed at this time in this country and around the world.
