Donny, I still enjoy writing tunes...so playing with a decent backing band is pleasure for me. The sd40 fills that role as well. I know this is a potential over reaction on my part, but to be honest...I like this dual stereo output option. I like the idea of outputting drums through their own stereo output. I’ve always felt arrangers bury drums and getting them to kick through the mix takes effort. I’m lazy in that regard. This is not an option that many care about, but it has always made sense to me.

The sd40 does make mixing easy with the individual knobs, so as I say...I may be over reacting. But, I’ve always had a soft spot for Yamaha...and with the new upgrades offered with the sx900...it does put a little pain in the pit of my stomach. Of course...it could just be acid reflux.

Wow! My ancient PA1x Pro had this back in the stone age. I guess if you wait long enough, an old feature looks new again .

Most top of the line arrangers have had them for many years, including Yamaha.
Not many motl ones do though. I remember running drum from Tyros 1 to mixer to try get them to sound decent way back then.
Roland had chord sequencer MANY years ago. Korg and Roland have had touchscreens and joysticks for decades as well.

This is the first Yamaha model that has caught my interest in a long time. I just hope the keys feel better than the old PSR series. I know you like spongy, Don, but I want at least a little, solid resistance.

It has been said that the keys are better; I hope not TOO much better.
This one seems to have the features I use a lot on Korg and Roland, with the weight right and price will be reasonable.
I was disappointed that no Audio styles were included, but I confirmed that it will play them, and they are readily available.
My USB stick is fairly current and should work fine until I get up to date with the new styles and sounds if necessary.
Although I like EA7 a lot, this will let be do away with the outboard vocal processor, laptop and a couple of power supplies, as does the Korg PA4X.
The 4X is getting lonely over in the corner. It technically still belongs to my friend DickeT and he will no doubt be a little disappointed to learn of the new PSR. He has worn the keys off his old 950 and will want one of these for sure.
We may have to sell his 4X now. It is like new as he never used it on a job and I have had it for the past year and haven't moved it but a dozen times or so. It has rested in my office most of that time. I do use it occasionally still and have it totally updated and loaded with "stuff".

I’m really torn over this after only buying the S975 two months ago. As much as I love the S975, the only disappointment with it was still the lack of vocal sounds and also none in any of the styles either. I’m still looking for that elusive true portable T4 equivalent and from all the demos I’ve seen so far it’s still appears the same story, the lack of vocals and none of them in the styles still. Of course it’s early days and I’ve looked at the data list where it suggests some of them are there but i would have thought at least one of the demos should have demonstrated it.

I do like the sound of the drums though, they sound punchy and crisp.

Well, I listened to the demos, the drums are a lot punchier than my S-950, very crisp and clean, the Steel Guitar is absolutely incredible as are many of the others I heard. Only heard one country style and it was superb, IMO.
