Last Sunday, I performed in a small African-American church. I had my own sound system; a QSC K8.2 and a Roland CM 30 as a monitor for the drummer and guitar player. I thought the QSC K8.2 would be loud enough but the drummer was playing so loud that I could hardly hear myself. I could have turned up the volume on the K8.2 but I went along as the drummer wouldn't let me stop. She just kept repeating! Well, I thought I need a bigger gun for something like that next time.

So now I have an excuse to look for a more powerful system. I stumbled upon Maui 900P. Looks nice, but it's almost $4,000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgT3xYE7SdU

I'm also looking at a combo amp - Motion Sound K610, K612, or K408. The Maui 900P besides the price is heavy, too. I have a Maui 28, which is pretty powerful, but the sub is around 60 LBS.

4K is a lot of money and there are many other choices out there. Do so serious shopping. The Motion Sounds get great reviews but its an amp on the floor.
better coverage if you can get the meds/higs in the air.
I've become a big fan of line arrys. I use two Eon Ones and they're terrific. If I needed more juice I'd go for the new Yamaha Line array. The StagePas 1K. Two fo those will cost a lot less then the Maul

I hated the Motion Sound thing. Returned it after trying two weeks to make it sound like I wanted.

I returned mine the same day I purchased it, when they were first available a few years back.

I loved the sound of the JBL Eon from the first note that came out of them. Bought 2 for me, and 1 for the owner of the club I perform at.

The StagePas 1K looks promising. The Maui 900P seems to be overpriced.

Don & Jerryghr, which model by Motion Sound have you tried? I heard only old model sounded good for keys. The current models are supposed to be vastly improved.

Mine was several years ago. Couldn't use it without a sub. Sounded o.k. in the room, but terrible on the bandstand. There were just too many choices that fit me better.

Sorry for stating the obvious, but from the message it looks like the problem is the drums themselves, not the sound system. In a building next to mine recently a drums school has been opened. At first they kept a window opened so I came there and told them that I hear them perfectly from my sixth floor. They now try to keep the window shut, but when they open a door it’s still rather annoying. My point is that drums can be abnormally loud. We see now at large concerts that a drummer sits in some kind of aquarium.

I notice in fact that even relatively small speakers usually deliver quite a sufficient sound. Maybe I’m being naive, but I’m a believer that in most cases music doesn’t have to be loud at all.

Sure. Personally, I don't play loud, nor do I listen to music at a loud volume. It is just that I happened to be in a place where people are used to playing and hearing high-volume music/preaching. I will say, though, it feels "good" to play loud once in a while to literally feel the vibration of the sound waves.
