Thought I would do a post because the forum is beyond dead! I know nothing about the SX-PR902R and am wondering if it has as many features as the KN7000. I have no idea when the console keyboard came out but it looks interesting. I haven't seen a full image of it but it looks sort of like a cute small baby grand. Anyone know anything about it, its features and if it has as many features as the KN7000?

It’s the Technics equivalent of the Yamaha Clavinova range, not an arranger keyboard like the KN7000.

Hi kitkat,

Beyond dead?? We're very much alive and kicking thank you laugh We're just busy playing our keyboards lol.

PR902 is an amazing instrument. It has all the features of KN6000, it is running almost the same operating system. It is one of the 'NX Sound' instruments and even has digital drawbars.

Broadly speaking, the differences are:

- More keys
- Weighted keys like a piano
- better sound system

Aside from that, there are some minor differences but you would find it 'the same' to operate as KN6000 and KN7000. It loads KN6000 Styles.

I was asked to do a printed manual for it a few years ago. You can see it on the following page:

https://www.blurb.co.uk/b/6466588-technics-pr902-pr702-pr602-user-manual

If you hit the Preview button on that page you can read the entire manual online. It's there because someone wanted a cleaned-up printed version.

Best wishes,
Mike

Hi Kitkat,
I have owned a PR903 for some time, which is very similar but a later model than the 902.
I would estimate it came out more than 20 years ago.
It is a digital piano of excellent quality, but not compatible with KN7000.
Touch is slightly lighter than acoustic piano.
Lots of power (240 watts), but less voices and styles than KN7, although most do copy KN7000.
Hope this helps.

Ah Ray is right. PR902 is KN5000 compatible I was thinking wrong.

Use the following page and look up the instrument on the left, it then tells you which Styles (software) it will load on the top.

https://technicskn7000.com/technics-instruments/technics-instruments-software-compatibility/

So for example, if you wanted the KN7000 Styles on PR902 you would have to download the KN5000 versions of the KN7000 Styles from my site.

I hope that makes sense!

What can you talk about when you're beyond dead... Memories I suppose of the great days past of the Technics range when they were market leaders, maybe... Or some very technical question the answer to which will be known by very few not including me - such as how to midi a Technics keyboard up to a Korg keyboard so that you can play one using the sounds and rhythms of the other. Or what features would a KN8000 have if brought out in the future by some entrepreneur...
That's enough to keep you busy for a while...chuckle.

Hey Guys! :))

Thanks for all your replies and knowledge of the keyboard. Glad no one was offended by my wise-ass saying the forum is dead. I thought I would wake up a few of you to look alive.

Yes, it was a great forum in the past and IS and can still be with new thoughts and members ideas of what they are doing on the KN7000 and other KN keyboards.

Thanks Mike for your thoughts and the download capability of the manual. Do I understand that the PR903 was the last made or is there still a later one the factory did? Thanks, also to Fran for the video. The sound of the instrument really came through nicely.

I saw the 902 for sale on eBay and the images were not complete but it looked like a small attempt at a baby grand piano in shape. I see it isn't. It certainly is far from being a portable. Did they come out with the SD card or only the floppy?

Thanks, again for all your replies. Still a great bunch on the forum.

Mark,

This is definitely still a great forum and I note the entire forum has about 33,000 members which is astonishing. Especially because the knowledgebase of these members is very high.

The last made Digital Ensemble was the PR804. I think they are incredible and I aspire to own one someday. A picture of it is featured on the front of my new site at the moment at https://technicskeyboard.com

Sadly, none of the digital ensembles ever had SD Cards. It is possible to add one but it would be an emulator (emulating floppy disks in the same way that the USB emulators do).

If I ever have one I will be very interested to take it apart and see whether the electronics are in place to add the KN7000's SD card to it. Doubtful but possible. When you look inside some of the keyboards, connectors are in place for various extras. Sometimes the circuitry is there but the components aren't. Anyway, I'm pretending to know about electronics, which I don't.

Posting another message in a min.

Mike
