Hello all,

I'm going through Yamaha's site wanting to purchase some of the new style files and when selecting the keyboard I own, the site selects the lowest compatibility and not T4 or T5 as I would expect, it's usually T3 or lower? This is really surprising since I thought there wasn't any significant compatibility differences.

Perhaps it is because sa2 voices appeared after T2 and sx900 doesn't have any?

Hi Sparky,

Thank you for you reply. Yes that has to be the reason it came to me afterwards but you confirmed it.

Hi Danny,
quite surprising the compatibility. I’m finding the t3 and t4 sound best on the sx.
On a rare occasion a psr sounds better ,or I have to use it because the T style is missing a voice.
Probably the voices Sparky mentioned.
(I’ve been going thru the factory styles and finding ones that aren’t on the sx.)

While speaking about styles. 🎵🎵 🎹 🎵🎵
Yamaha created a pack of T5 styles for Genos that cover the T5 styles missing on Genos.
Maybe worth a try for those not already tested it at SX900.

Thank you for the replies.

So I was going through the list choosing the styles I wanted to buy (which were quite a few), and all of them were selecting the lowest grade, eg, XT or XA. I took into consideration of why it wasn't selecting T4 or T5 but then I thought, hold on, why is it selecting the grade compatible with the PSR9000 !!! Not even T1 or T2... I thought this wasn't right so I changed all the selections to at least T4, it gave me the warning message about they may not work well on my instrument bla bla but I thought I'm sorry I am not accepting it selecting the lowest grade. So after purchasing and trying them, they all work perfectly fine, all T4 grade. I think I could have even gone T5 or maybe even G1 but I didn't want to push it, T4 is fine since I have a T4 as well to fall back on in case it didn't work out.

So maybe if anybody is going to purchase styles or packs from the store I don't think Yamaha have implemented the compatibility levels properly for the SX series yet, I would say at least T4 or T5 at the minimum. None of the styles used SA2 voices either.

Hi Danny,
I’ m getting close to having sorted thru all the factory styles I have.
I found T series tend to sound better than the psr series.
I finally managed to get hold of T5 styles. In a lot instances to me they sound the best. Next choice are the T 4’s.
On rare occasions they are still missing the odd voice, in which case I’ve kept an S950/s970 version instead, even though the voice missing could be replaced by a sx voice. Guessing it’s the sa2 voices.

Stay away from early styles, they sound the worst. I have a couple of psr 2000 styles I use, I’ll fix those, but majority of early style sound awful.

I’m talking about factory styles, I would imagine third party styles would be same.

If the site is recommending early model styles, think maybe the compatibility selector is wrong.
