as far as cubase is concerned there is little difference between them, the 2600 will work fine without any software, just as the 5000 would. If you get the 5000 look for a style converter and initial floppy to be supplied, if the 2600 an applications and driver cd.

5000 pros, more on board styles (lots of downloads from Gunnar Jonny's site), built like a tank, better keyboard (if not hammered by now), great sounding amp/speakers, hardly need monitors, colour screen, more panel memories, 20 patterns in flash memory don't need loading, after touch.
5000 cons, floppy takes a long time to load/save, 3 part accomp.

2600 pros, more modern styles and latest styles on SD download, faster load/save, 8 part accomp, better pads, General Midi 2, digital audio recording through usb, digital audio playback from SD card if you buy an extra cost kit to transfer audio from the pc to the card.
2600 cons, cheaper lightweight construction, key feel not as nice, weedy speakers but fine with eq tweaked up through monitors, blue screen, only 24 panel memories (though a fast SD load partly compensates), no after touch.

...swings and roundabouts!

thanks for all your replies, from what you have all told me, I'm not too bothered which keyboard I get, which ever one I can get the quickest and for the cheapest...I will get. They both have their pro's which warrant me buying them. Thanx for all your contributions, I'm bidding on a kn2600 in a couple of hours...I'll let you know how it goes...

I bidded on the kn2600...unfortunately not winning, the next keyboard which will be finishing soonest is a kn5000, I will simply keep going through all the keyboards available in order of which finishes first bidding with the highest I am prepared to pay, it appears the keyboard I get is now in the hands of fate...

The 2600 can play KN2000, KN3000, KN5000, KN6000 KN6500 and KN7000 type files. (All KN's)

The 5000 can play KN2000, KN3000, and KN5000 type files. (5000 and below only)

For me this makes the 2600 a no brainer, especially since it is a newer model, with more modern features.

Hi Larry.
What dose a "no brainer" mean?
I have not heard that expression before!
Is it an Americanism?
Kind regards.
Joe.

Hi Baz
I have a KN2600 which I bought as a 'back up in case of emergencies' to my KN7000 which I gig with. I've taken it out a couple of times but otherwise it stays in it's bag in the spare bedroom.
I would consider selling it if the offer was sensible.
BTW what part of the country do you live in?
John

"No Brainer" means not much thought needed, as the choice should be obvious. I didn't realize it was an "American Saying"
