Best values ever in vocal mic have to include Samson Q series. I have a Q7 and Q8 and a Q8x. I have had the Q7 for many years and use it for a guest mic. It has been abused and misused but still sounds great. The Q8 is now at home for use there. Q8x is Supercardiod. It is a little smoother than the Senn 945, but the frequency response is less on the high end. Doesn't matter as you can't hear over 16k anyway. I alternate between the Q8x and the 945 and sometimes think I hear a cleaner sound with the Senn, but when I listen to the recordings, I can't tell them apart. I bought the Q8x off Ebay for $79., shipped, no tax. You can find real bargains on the Q7 and Q7x. The "7s" have a little more handling noise.
Gary either you can sing or you can't.. stripped acapella tells all
Of course, but a good mic will help a GOOD singer SOUND good, while a cheap, inferior mic can make a good singer SOUND bad ...
wrong a good mic doesn't make a singer who can't sing sound better it just makes them THINK they sound better. Your not foolin anyone..same thing with a keyboard..

Old stalwart; a 585 or a $49.95 Carvin I got free with purchase of a $599.00 sound system 20 years ago. $100.00 mikes are fine for me. Don't really like to sing.

Not so sure if even a cheap mic will make a good singer sound bad. I am certain if you had let’s say Uncle Dave singing on a $29 mic and me singing on a $600, Uncle will still sound better than me.

There are other things to consider...handling noise, feedback rejection, durability, weight, sensitivity, proximity effect. That's why there is more than just one mic, and why some cost more than others.
