Thank you, Rikki; I guess, I explained it not very well. I meant that the 7th of January is the Christmas Day in Russia, but it’s not celebrated in the way other countries celebrate it on December 25th. It’s more about the church and religion. This shift has some historical reasons, something to do with calendars. So all the parties and shopping are devoted to the celebration of the New Year, which is, obviously, the night before January 1st.
Well, I do not party at all, so the only unusual opportunity it presented were very silent streets during January 1st (I mean daytime); I had a really good walk; I believe that any day can/should be celebrated as special, so if I fill like eating a cake I just buy one. Officially, Russians have days-off from Jan 1 to Jan 9, obviously, not everyone, but a lot of people have these 9 days in a row of doing nothing. For those, who can afford it, it’s an opportunity to travel somewhere, but for those who can’t, it’s a rather risky challenge of eating&drinking.
Anyway, it’s nice of you to think of it, even if there was some misunderstanding:-)
