How important is keyfeel to you?
getting the RIGHT keeyfeel to play could be a make or break situation no matter what else the unit has going for it...
Are you happy with your keyfeel or just settling with it......
It certainly can effect the way you play and sound.
Sometimes I'd love the keyfeel but displiked the keyboard..
Thoughts...

Since I am an organ man,the light touch of PSRs and controllers don't bother me. The Pa4X is fine too,but the SRX900 in between,is my favorite. The keyfeel to me, is less important than the features. Now, if I was a piano man I would be singing a different tune.

for me the Genos, Tyros, and Pa4x, and SD1+ were some of my favorites besides my old B3 also...
it surly effects your playing in many ways.
I do not like wobbly, plastic, hallow, clicky, keybeds,
especially when your slide up and down

Key feel is not a big priority. I’m not a concert pianist or anything. I just play simple melodies, improvisations, and chords. I can do that on any keyboard. But yes, some feel better than others, but I can easily adjust to whatever keyboard I’m playing, weighted or not.

I'm happy with the SX-900 keybed, I have had lots of different ones, from 1970's Thomas organ's to SX-900.....including a couple piano action synth's (Kurzweil) and all have been real nice. All of those instruments were higher end, so the keybed was always nice. The SX is my first PSR, and one reason I didn't have a previous one was the keybed was not what I was looking for.

Now, my big challenge is to find a 61 MIDI keyboard I can live with the action on for the lower. CME made the best, but they don't make them anymore.

Lee why not look for a used CME controller if you have to use two KB's?

I didn’t like the keys on my psr s950. I don’t mind the keys on the sx900, the Pa4x keys were better though.
My preference for playing piano sounds , is still fully weighted, so pleased with my p121/ sx900 set up.

P.s. Lee, what style are you using for Somewhere in Time? maybe answer on a different thread so we don’t hijack this one.

I can understand the importance of a quality keybed...
it really does matter. Although I guess I just got used to featherweight keys before I am slowly developing a better concern for something a step up in feel.

Keybeds are VERY important to me. This is how I rate the keybeds on some of my boards.

KeyB Duo Mk111 - PERFECT, indistinguishable from a well-maintained B3.

Nord C1 and C2D - Excellent, waterfall of course, nearly as good as the KeyB.

Roland Fantom G7 - 10/10

Roland A70 Controller - 10/10

Roland VP770 10/10

Korg Triton 10/10

Tyros II 10/10

Crumar SEVEN 7/10 10/10 if you like authentic Rhodes action

Korg PA1x Pro 9/10

NumaCompact 2x 7/10 (I'm being generous here)

VX49 Controller 8/10

Graphite 49 Controller 6/10

Of course, all of these ratings are based on personal taste. Also, the SEVEN and the organs are rated based on a different set of criteria due to their design for specialty playing techniques.

I'm settling for the feel of my BK9. Firm but not perfect. the other features of it make it good for my needs. I prefer a piano touch as I feel its more responsive but I understand that would add to the weight of this board meant for playing out. Only drawback to a weighted touch would be organ type aounds which I don't use very much except at home for fun so I wouldn't miss them. So many things to consider with a keyboard I guess you have to make a prority list of wants.

I am with you Chas... In fact the first thing I check on a new keyboard is key feel.. If it feels crappy.. don't even turn it on

I don't understand how players don't mind key feel. Playing comfort and how the key feel reacts to dynamics of the sounds... is everything.

Here is my rating of my keys.

G70 10/10 (just like Chas's A70).

E-A7 8/10 (undersized but decent feel)

Edirol PC-80 controller 7/10

My accordion 10/10

Hammond 10/10

Prelude (as I recall) 8/10

Yamaha np-v60 piano 8/10


Anything I would rate at 6/10 or lower, I wouldn't want to play.

Wow that is an impressive list of rated keybeds.....
I guess the Psr/sx line doesn't stand a chance judging by these comparisons,....but like I said you can adapt if needed to a lighter feel even if its not the preferred.

Yes, too light and you just can’t engage with it, too heavy (Particularly piano action) just makes my wrist ache these days, preferring mainly organ I like a middling keyboard (Usually called semi weighted) like the Fatar semi weighted range.

The Roland A70 might be the best non hammer master keyboard ever...
