I think the big new feature was sampling --kinda like the E-A7

The chord sequencer was dropped, and didn't return until the BK-9
For whatever reason Diki and some of the other big Roland users skipped this generation. They held onto their G-1000s until the G-70 was mature, and traded up to that.
I remember trying the G-1000 in a store and being blown away, but the price was way beyond my reach at the time. All of these boards are huge and incredibly heavy by modern standards.
