Another G70 tip.
The G70 can not save edited tones or favorite tones... or does it?
The answer is YES!!.
This is a work around, although I think Roland intended users would use it.
You can edit any sound on the G70 (basic edits, not as deep as EA7) .
After editing write them as a user program. You just wrote a user tone.
Rename the user program so it describes your user tone.
Save as a user program (you do not have to save in the User Program set list.. Save in the User program memory (limited to the size of memory source).
When naming the user tone use a prefix (Maybe a "-" to show it is a user tone). This way you could do a search and all the "-" tone names will be shown instantly.
You could also use set list (144) if you want and save as a set list to reload (in seconds).
Now prepare the "hold" to allow only the tone when you select a user program This will only function when the HOLD light is on (easy activation).
So now you have edited User Tones and Favorite tones.
BTW: the edited sounds include all 6 realtime sounds (you select the part you want to play .. 1 or all 6). Use layered or splits.

I don't know how useful that info is as there are very few G70 users but good for sharing any info, especially from an expert. I can edit tones within Preformances on the BK9 so no big deal for me. Still can't figure why adding an effect to a Supernatural Tone will work in one Preformance an not another, but I can live with it. As things are now I probably will stay with my BK9's for as long as Fran jas stayed with his G70. Looks like I have a line on a mint BK7M too so I'm a Roland BK guy for the long run.
Can anyone suggest a simple (very simple as all controlling will be done on the BK7M ) controller for the BK7M ???

Getting off-topic. If you're gonna keep the BK-module close to you, the basic Keystation will get the job done. If you expect to control some of the functions remotely, you'll need something with buttons and sliders. I remember when it first came out some folks had good experiences with Roland's own A-800 Pro. You might have to download the manual for the controller and make sure it can send the MIDI messages for the functions you want to control. My $.02.

The A800 Pro will totally control the BK7 and it comes with software to help set it up. SOMEWHERE I have a complete setup I saved when I had this rig. I had 50 buttons, sliders, etc. programmed to control the BK7, and could do a lot of things you can't do from the module itself. I also have a similar setup for the Ketron SD40. If you go this route I'll try to find it if you are interested.

We had them at my school. They have a small footprint, nice, firm action, minimal buttons - just an affordable, functional way to get key info into your sounds of choice. They stack really well, because of the absence of buttons and sliders.

Here are the maps I found. I would think the ones with (2) in the title are the latest I did. They are actually midi files that tell the controller what to do. You will need the program that comes with the 800 Pro. Instructions are with the program. I hope they are useful if you go that way. Control maps for Roland BK7M

Thanks Don. Appreciate it. I'll have to take a serious look at the Roland controller.

what should it matter LOL?? maybe you should re visit the G70 (if you can find one) and realise why some people are still playing them I own and play the G70 every day and cant see anything replacing it at the moment. It is THAT good! :-).
@Fran - good tip on the "favourite tones" I never really thought of that but it makes total sense and is so easy to do...
I have been spending alot of time lately using song make up tools for midi files that i have accumulated over time. what a breeze to edit midi files and save them for your performances on the keyboard.. something I was never able to do on a korg or Yamaha keyboard without using a computer based DAW and even still was a nightmare. Every time the midi file would start from the beginning all the tracks would revert back to their auto re voice.. so annoying and painful to overcome!!
I noticed a G70 has been put up for sale by someone locally in Australia on Gumtree.com.au for $2800 AUD (currently about $1700USD). The seller states "Reluctant sale as I still believe it’s one of the best keyboards made - ahead of its time".. it makes me smile as I can totally concur with that statement .
