... I'm almost regretting the move to this apartment. Sigh .... it was so convenient when I was working at the restaurant .01 mile away, and I could leave the house to perform each day. Now, cooped up inside, with all my neighbors at home, I am constantly aware of my volume, and hours of performing. It's distracting. Add to that ... the restaurant has officially closed for good, so I now have no reason to live here. Well, it's close to my son, so that's nice, but as far as a matter of convenience - that's gone. I need more space to create, experiment, and not worry about the volume or the hour. Reinvention has just taken on a new category. I was already invested in a career reboot, but now I will be looking at a location reboot as well. My sister live in upstate NY near the beautiful finger lakes. It's not crowded, has a very low level of CoVid cases, and living there would be so much cheaper than here, in Philly. Can't shut my brain off - so many things to ponder.
YUK. The thought of packing up and moving again so soon (been here 3 years) is daunting.

Dave really sorry to hear this sad news wow!!! have you thought about moving to the wildwoods area where eventually when this is over you can have more opportunities to work clubs, NH's, etc, vs Upstate NY? ...and does that mean I'll have to drive up on the NY thruway to some rest area to make a midnight deal ??? Just kidding,....think hard and I KNOW you will bounce back regroup and make this catastrophe something fruitful once again... rooting for you buddy! Now get back up on the horse and let's RIDE!!

John, I LIKE that philosophy! I'm not in any rush to decide. I'm covered well through the summer, even if no work or PAU kicks in. So far I've jumped through all the hoops on line to register for the gig workers PUA, but seen nothing yet. There's so many unresolved issues due to the lack of regulation in this area. This is such a new thing, it'll be a mess for a while and when we can finally talk to a representative, maybe we can argue the case for cash jobs more effectively. I send 1099s, references, calendars, webpage schedules, and completed tax forms. There's nothing more to send.
Anyone have better luck with PUA?

A few times my wife and I have talked about 'downsizing' and have gone looking at single or duplex condo units - I could never live in an apartment - and my biggest concern has been ' where would my music room be, relative to the people next door' ... Consequently, we've never moved ... Dave, I feel for you in this situation, and while I don't know you personally, I think I know enough about you to have some thoughts ... The first is: the FINGER LAKES region?!? ... admittedly,I don't know the area except that I doubt it is anything like Philly, or south/central NJ ... I think you are far more a 'metropolitan' type guy, than an upstate NY guy, no matter how beautiful it may be ... Secondly, as wrinkles stated, you should check out the music job market ... Thirdly, you recently stated you were excited about providing a space for musicians to do some recording or whatever in your studio - how will that play out up state? I wish you the, best my friend ... and heed the advice of the sage John C ...

the FINGER LAKES region?!? ... admittedly,I don't know the area except that I doubt it is anything like Philly, or south/central NJ ... I think you are far more a 'metropolitan' type guy, than an upstate NY guy We've been going up there for twenty some years to visit my sis, and enjoy the lake life ... it's slower, quieter, and very peaceful. I could live there in a heartbeat, and my sister would be ecstatic to have her younger brother nearby. Secondly, you should check out the music job market ... WHAT job market? 30 million of us have no job. I will reinvent, and adapt. Swimming lessons, music lessons, vocal coaching, theatre audition preps, in home rehearsals and on site recording, maybe? There will be something interesting to do. Thirdly, you were excited about providing a space for musicians to do recording in your studio - how will that play out up state? Well, everything is relative. Lower housing costs mean lower salaries too. My initial thought is to have family nearby, and the rest will just have to work out. If there is a business to be HAD - I will HAVE it. There may be school options as music consultant - who knows? To paraphrase W.C. Fields ... "all in all, I'd rather be anywhere BUT Philadelphia" I have the whole summer to make a plan before money gets tight. No flash decisions.
