I'm still using my trusty JBL 10 Eon G2's with great success. Never have I used speaker poles and never will. It's all how you place them, if I'm at the same level as the audience I just tilt them up so the sound bounces off the ceiling, disperses nicely throughout the room and doesn't blast anyone in the face. If I'm on a stage or platform I will generally point them straight forward and get good coverage. I've never had a complaint that there're not loud enough. On the contrary there have been occasions where I have been asked to turn down when it's a room that's hard for me to tell what's going on with the acoustics. All that and only 23 lbs each.
Also, being on the floor gives a very adequate bass which can be adjusted by changing the EQ, and/or how close they are to the wall.
