New Mac Os is being released this month around Novemeber 12th 2020, called Big Sur, the seventeenth release of MacOS.

Like all updates, be careful to a backup; you can use "Time Machine" to backup you files, including apps, music, photos, email, documents and system files.

Not heard much on it as yet or if the Daws will be effected by the upgrade at all, if you are using one or more pieces of software that will run your keyboard/ music setups.

Actually it was announced earlier in the year and has been available to users in Beta format for months, so changes are well documented. (There are plenty of reviews out there on bot YouTube, Websites & Forums)

Naturally it also supports Apple Silicon (The first products of which will be available next week (And can be ordered now) which with Rosetta 2 should allow 3rd party programs to run on the new silicon without problems. (All the big manufactures are porting over their software to get the best out of Apple silicon with many already (Or shortly will be) available)

I would give it time and move ahead slowly. There are bound to be bugs when uses in the real world. My old desktop 2008 has been chugging along and only needed a memory boost about 5 years ago. As long as its working I'm staying put.

You should never upgrade an OS until you are SURE that every last application you use in your usual workflow has been either updated for the new OS or confirmed (by users on its forum, not some PR blurb!) that it works problem free on the new OS without an update.

That includes your audio interface drivers, DAW, any software arranger editors, any financial and booking software, calendars etc..

If your business or even your hobby revolves around a functioning computer system, you should ensure that everything you use on a regular basis is confirmed to be compatible with the new OS. While business productivity software is often ready to go when Apple or Microsoft roll out a new OS, quite often little music software companies lag by a few months. Don’t find out too late! 😱🎹😎

Just had an email from Native Instruments and they recommend not to update to Big Sur as they still having technical problems with it, which they are still working on.
