I have mentioned Zack Brock several times before. He is the son of a local lawyer/musician and has been playing Ponte's part with Corea and gigging with others who are in the group of elite players.

GREAT KID!

Now, I just learned that he is nominated for a Grammy for his work with Snarky Puppy.

The nomination is for an album recorded live in London at the Royal Albert hall.

It's GREAT when outstanding musicians are recognized.

It's EVEN BETTER, when that musician (or group) is (are) personally nice.

I'm proud of this dude, for sure!

It's great to see someone you know reach that level, especially in such a competitive field such as music, even more so in jazz, playing violin of all things! I haven't heard him but if he's played with such elites as Chick Corera and Snarky Puppy he has to one bad a** Mofo. I wish him well !

One question Russ, just curious about his background. I assume he is classically trained? Also being from Kentucky, I wonder if he has a background in bluegrass?

His daddy is a lawyer and a jazz trumpet player. Well off family. Zack went to music school in Chicago...can't remember where.

He does no play bluegrass...hates it like I do, although I think he knows one of my best friends, J.D. Crowe, whom most people is the best Bluegrass banjo player alive.

Great kid. Samples of his work are really easy to find by simply googling his name.

REALLY GOOD, DESERVING KID!

My bud won for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. Also, I just found out that he won a Grammy in 2016.

That's GREAT!
