Not gonna happen.

Genos design is already compact and light weight for TOTL arranger. I believe they did it due to chronic complaints for poor bulky designed Tyros series and trying to complete with better cut/looking Pa3x/4x. I prefer Yamaha style control buttons because they are more solid and proven Tyros style buttons with good spacing. Pa3x/4x looks more stylish / cooler and the body construction feels more solid.




Sx900 keys ( even though they are improved), they are not the same category as Genos/ Tyros/Pa4x quality.

Genos , which has 76 keys (13 Kg- 28 lbs) is lighter than Tyros 5 - 61 keys which is 14 kg. It’s lighter than Pa4x - 61 keys which is close to 14Kg.

Width is way shorter than bulky fat Tyros 5 -76 and even 17mm shorter than Roland BK9.

Sx900 is already more than 25 Ibs. 76 keys with ( with supporting body )may add minimum 1 more pound with will be close to 27 lbs.

The problem with Genos is the price.

“Not goinna happen”.... Yep, that’s what they said about a 76 Tyros. Never say never..!

The BK-9, at 20lbs has a keybed easily as good as a Genos or PA4X (but doesn’t have aftertouch), fits a case for a 73 Nord Electro, and retailed street price little more than an SX900.

As I said, absolutely nobody said they wanted a 76 Tyros, ever thought Yamaha would make one, made all the same tired arguments about the issue. For years...

Can’t say I’ve read a single post from someone that said they wouldn’t upgrade to a Genos from a T4 because it only came in a 76... I predict that the same would happen if the SX went to a lightweight 76 as long as the keybed was up to the BK-9’s standard.

It’s always good to hope. The reality may be a different story. 76 keys MOTL arranger request is historically less common than 76 keys TOTL. MOTL arranger module from Yamaha is more common but who knows?

While I’m enjoying my SX900, I certainly wouldn’t mind to have all those sliders! :-)

In my case it is also a particular seller who made the purchase possible, with official prices that would not be an option.

As for the design, I believe both Tyros and Genos have impressive looks; but portability surely counts. Considering that any box or a case tends to weight a lot itself, each pound matters.

The Genos is more a studio, stay at home keyboard, while the SX-900, much more portable. Call me Captain Obvious

Not sure I agree with the 76 being only good for home, while gigging players would want a 61. One would have thought the other way round, to be frank, gigging keyboard players being more likely to have the chops to play some proper piano stuff, and the home hobbyist less so.

I doubt any home pianist is going to feel happy with less than 88 weighted, but the gigging player is rather more concerned about weight. And 88 choices for a full TOTL level arranger are non-existent, some kind of unwritten rule seems to dictate only MOTL capabilities for 88 note arrangers 🤬

But 76 arranger weights have plummeted to the point that they are barely a couple of pounds over the weight of a 61. And you’ve got to be driving a subcompact tiny car before a 76 is too big as long as you don’t buy an oversized case. In this day and age of SUV’s and pickup trucks the size of whales, who HASN’T got room for a 76?!

My BK-9, in a hard plastic case with wheels weighs 5lbs less than my G70 did alone! Maybe it’s time to acknowledge that progress has made some of the old arguments a bit moot?
