It's been getting worse for years. Now, the pain in my right thumb is constant. Part of it is caused by playing keys incorrectly for years and breaking up bar fights.

The rest, according to my GP is "old age".

Anybody got helpful advice? My GP didn't even give me a referral and only recommended Advil 650 mm arthritis meds.

The pain is pretty severe, but I am careful about any surgery. I'm afraid of losing speed and strength, which would affect my playing. My left hand is already a mess from a serious cut years ago.

HELP!

I‘d go for Dr. Ekberg‘s competent nutrition advice:

I had a bad bout of LH trigger thumb a few years ago, doctors wanted to do surgery. Naturally, I didn’t want that if it could be helped. A guitarist friend had had other similar joint issues and said turmeric pills had helped…

I tried them, couple of months (takes a while for relief to work) and lo and behold, total cure!

Best thing was, not expensive, and zero side effects, unlike a lot of pharmaceutical treatments. Give it a try, it can’t hurt, at least…

I received this story about referrals and GP’s.

When the GP receives a new patient, he gets a sum of money. Each referral the GP receives a deduction from that amount. I have never checked the validity of the story --- but I tell my GP what I want done. If we disagree, we discuss the problem, and 90% of the time I get the referral.

Although I trust my doctor,
no one knows my body better than I.

Russ, no games, go to the medical specialist and get the whole story. Pains and age do go together.
Take care, John C.

I knew a guy who swore by a teaspoon of vinegar daily for finger joint pain. Try it if you can stand it..

Hello, this is your adopted daughter. I am sure food can make a big difference, as I already posted. Here‘s another Hackensack link that supports this:

In the meantime, while you read, get on the turmeric. Zero side effects, tons of other benefits, it can’t hurt at the very least. I have doctor friends that don’t do much in the way of supplements, but swear by a couple of turmeric pills a day. Great anti-inflammatory properties…
