Greetings!

A horrible thing happened last week. After playing my Genos

for hours I turned it and my amp off as usual. I covered it

and went to use my computer which sits close by. I hear this

commotion going on and in the corner of my eye I see my Genos

standing on end like the Titanic! My cat was just jumping off

my Genos onto a folding table next to it. The sudden shift in

weight caused the left side of the Genos to lift up and

suddenly fall.....the only thing keeping it from falling hard

were the audio cable connectors keeping it from touching the

floor.

Both audio connectors were bent and broken where they attach

to the back of the Genos. I carefully removed the connectors,

installed some new ones, and turned Genos back on.

Nothing!!!!!! I almost cried contemplating and thinking the

worst. This is gonna cost.....................

I finally had some time today and put Genos on my operating

table. My old eyes needed a magnifying glass and bright

light, but I saw what I had hoped. Inside the jacks were 2

small pieces of the connectors. It took some skill and effort

but I got them out.

That's when I cried! My Genos is fixed!!! I've been playing

it quite a while. It sounds better than ever!!

PS My 25 pound cat doesn't know it but she is on a diet!!!!

What a relief!

Not that it’s ever likely to happen again, but there’s something about this new generation of ultra lightweight keyboards we are blessed with nowadays (or at least our backs are!) that can be a problem…

You just found out how easy they are to knock over, and also you might have noticed how much more they tend to move when you play them hard (normal piano or B3 weight). This is only exacerbated by those x-stand type keyboard stands. They used to work decently enough when loaded with enough weight to stabilize them (like my old 45lbs G70!) but these 20lbs or so arrangers are so easy to move, knock over, bounce…

This is why I prefer the ‘leg at each corner’ type keyboard stands nowadays. No matter how hard I play my BK-9 it doesn’t move an inch. And an elephant could jump off it (lol) and it would stay right there. I can’t say that for x-stands and column type stands.

Many of us grew up playing pianos and home organs, behemoths that you could pound with a sledgehammer and they never moved. Maybe it’s worth moving to a type of stand that, although the keyboard is light as a feather, it is supported so sturdily it FEELS like those old behemoths!

Just in case you keep an elephant as a pet!

This is what I use… https://gatorframeworks.com/products/heavy-duty-keyboard-table-gfw-utility-tbl/

A DOG would probably show some remorse, but a cat....he/she is probably somewhere laughing their butt off at the whole incident smile smile. Lucky she has you; with most Genos owners, she'd be down to eight lives now. smile smile For what it's worth, I'm a cat lover too (but not to the point of owning one). Gotta admire the little rascals though. No other animal gets as much from man and gives so little in return smile smile.

this has been a house rule in my family for over 50 years.....
no kids
no pets
around or close to my equipment .
i was lucky to isolate the equipment from such problems.

Yeah, that's how I knew mine was dead; he let me hold him.
