My guitar player is always sending me clips of stuff he thinks I might like. When I viewed it I immediately thought of Paul (Montunoman) because of a performance he posted that featured a sax player (relative?) that I really liked. Also, I believe he also has a niece (or cousin) who plays violin. In any case, this is great ensemble playing and the young lady (violinist) is very talented.

BTW Paul (just asking your opinion), would you add more percussion or is it just right as is?

Hey Chas,

Thanks for sharing this beautiful music! I’ll for sure share this with my brother in law ( sax) and daughter ( violin)

I love bossa nova, and if I could play just one style , this would be it!

As far as percussion , I wouldn’t change a thing. Bossa nova is all about sophistication and subtleties. Percussion is like spice. If you don’t have enough your food is bland if you have too much you can ruin the meal. In this case I think the drummer got it just right. I love the brush and stick combination that he did. That was so smooth and flowing and I’m afraid extra percussion would cover up those smooth drumming intricacies.

I really love the ensemble and wouldn’t change anything , but it would be interesting to hear a nylon string guitar too. Anyways thanks for turning me on to this great group!

Great soft Desmond sax! bossa is my favorite. also, Paul.Cut my chops on Sergio and Brazil 66. Loved ans still love Jose. Listen to he and Diane Shure on By Design sometime.

I'd jump at the chance to play a Brazilian Giannini Craveola with a group like this.

A nice refresher after 30 straight playing for a film about dump trucks (LOL).

Based on the mix here, I’m not sure there would be a lot of room for the addition of a bunch of percussion or a guitarist. Those strings are taking up a LOT of sonic space, and the arrangement uses them up front and loud and proud! Which is very much the goal, I imagine. I’m not sure how much you’d have to subtract from that great arrangement to leave room for a couple of additional players… probably so much it wouldn’t have the same impact.

This is the genius of not throwing the kitchen sink at a song..! The smaller rhythm section makes the strings shine, IMHO.
