I got a chance to tour a state of the art 11.6.6 Dolby Atmos Home Theater.

Every component from the Projector, Screen, Speakers, Audio and Video Processors were reference grade.

The picture was brighter and sharper than a commercial movie theater while the immersive surround sound had pinpoint spatial accuracy. The bass response was uniform no matter where you sat thanks to the WaveForming technology from Trinnov Audio.

I was asked to do this review for the Arizona Audio Video Club because of my interest in music.

Here it is:

For those of us who are accustomed to the sound from PA speakers, the digitally corrected flat frequency response from this array of 23 speakers was a revelation.

Best,

David

Quite nice for a bathroom, but you would need to get some serious equipment for a dedicated room. grin

Plus this item is missing

Hi Bill,

Wow! Is that the WERSI PERGAMON OAX1000 in Black?

https://www.wersi.net/en/en-produkte/en-pergamon-oax1000/

This flagship model costs EUR 39,990.

This looks absolutely majestic.

Yes, you certainly need a large expansive theater room with a system of equally impressive high-end speakers to do this justice.

I can think of one such custom built room where this WERSI can find a home.

Just look at the impressive engineering, architectural design and interior decoration that went behind this custom home theater build.

The owner Robert Vanman started this project with an initial budget of $500,000. It went way beyond that after the project was finally completed after 5 years.

Here is a tour of the finished design.

Ha! While I admire the passion behind such mega projects for those who can afford it, I question the practicality.

Why spend millions just to recreate a miniature movie theater in your home when you can visit your local multiplex and enjoy watching a movie in a commercial Dolby Atmos Movie Theater sporting a 65’ wide screen along with hundreds of speakers surrounding you?

It costs me just $1.67 per movie to watch them at our premium Dolby Atmos or IMAX theaters.

Here is how.

Just become an AMC Stubs A-List Member for $19.95 a month.

https://www.amctheatres.com/amcstubs/alist

You will get to watch as many as 3 free movies each week and reserve the best seats in advance. There is no surcharge for Dolby Atmos or IMAX showings.

Basically, you get to see 12 movies every month in any format for $19.95.

No home theater can beat the economics of this plan! It essentially makes all home theaters a silly waste of money.

Yes, the Pergamon comes as standard in Black or White, however for extra cost you can have it in any colour you want. (Just like a car)

With a home theatre you can watch any film any time you want, whereas you can only watch whatever they are showing in the cinema.
You can get a decent Dolby Atmos home theatre system for your lounge for under £1500, add a projector and screen and you can have the cinema in your home, (If it's a small room, then a big TV will also do) plus you don't have to worry about others making noises etc. and disturbing your enjoyment of the film.

Hi Bill,

Yes, it does not cost much to set up a basic home theater in your living room or den and have the freedom to watch any movie you like.

However, the younger generation is gravitating towards personal entertainment devices that they can carry with them. They prefer to stream NETFLIX movies on their iPads or Laptops. It offers a mobile solution that they can enjoy everywhere. Even a TV is perceived as a bulky, static burden.

Same thing is happening with high-end 2-channel audio systems. There was a time when audiophiles used to cherish their reel-to-reel tape recorders, vinyl, and CD collection.

They would remove a record from its cover, dust it off, place it on the platter and carefully drop the needle and enjoy the music while being seated. It was considered a music listening event.

The younger generation does not have time for this. Music is simply something that plays in the background while they are focusing on their primary activity. They are more than happy with their wireless Apple AirPods streaming music on their iPhones.

The majority do not own any physical media. They are more than happy subscribing to a high-rez music streaming service like the Qobuz Studio Plan for $130 a year.

https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/music/streaming/offers

They get instant access to a hundred million tracks that they can enjoy anywhere, anytime on the go.

They have no interest in investing in quality speakers, pre-amps, power amps and DACs. The outrageous pricing on audiophile equipment is partially to blame for relegating this hobby to a tiny exclusive club.

Convenience has taken priority over quality.
