Ted and all,
Seventy six years on this planet has taught me one thing - That’s the way the cookie crumbles.
I had an employee in the office. For years he was faithful, very good at what he did and an excellent all around man. Could not ask for a better man. Fifteen years ago I made a decision to computerize the office. I made that decision not because I had to at the moment but because I looked into the future. I could have found many excuses not to, such as not enough money at the moment, too long of a learning curve and even Ruthie chimed in suggesting I didn’t even know how to spell computer. Anyway I did it. One of the things I found was life in the business world was so much more enjoyable. Downside? Yes! Every three to four years I had to upgrade the computers, upgrade the software, upgrade, upgrade and upgrade. But I would never go back for a minute. Poor old Al, my faithful employee, who was not yet ready, willing or able to move up to the new, was very unhappy. Could never understand what was wrong with the old way. I had to give him an office and give him menial jobs to do for the next few years until he retired. He missed so much out of life because of his attitude. Poor old Al! But that is the way the cookie crumbles.
Yes I know, some cannot afford the move some have a wife that don’t see things like we do and some are just plain cheap. A few just like to complain or sing, ‘woe is me’. But then again that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Life is not fair and life is not easy. Learning how to be satisfied with what one has is a priceless virtue and one to strive after. Ruthie has a hard time with that principle when it comes to living with me but I tell her, ‘that's the way the cookie crumbles.
