Hello!

How do I convert set-up and sequence files
for the Tyros and PSR3000 for use on my
Technics KN7000?

Thanks for any help.

Merrill

Hi.

As mentioned at your post at the Gen Arr Forum, I'm maybe totally out on
the deep water here.....
When save sequensed songs at the Tyros or PSR, it's saved as midifile, GM
or XG, right?
If so, maybe save one of each format, load as GM into KN7000, and to get
use of most sounds on the KN, save as NX to coninue your playback / work
and to see which of the GM or XG who give the best result as "startfile".

But again, I'm not very familiar to how to do (if possible) at the keyboard
models you mention, so maybe anybody here have the solution how to do this?

Good luck

Hi Merrill
probably not very easily due to some of the special voices used by these keyboards.

This program may help, it converts midifiles to different formats gm , xg etc
but you're still going to have a fair bit of tweaking in front of you. http://www.svpworld.com/util_midiplayer.htm

I haven't actually used it, but Michael ( creator of the programs) is very helpful, though he's more of an expert on psr's ( not technics)

best wishes
Rikki

p.s. there's all sorts of utilities for psr's on that site.

Merrill, I can tell you from my own experience that unless you want to spend hours rebuilding Yamaha presets to sound right on a Technics keyboard, don't bother. For some reason, the Yamaha styles convert with improper builds on the chords. Instead of c,e,g notes for the C chord, they could be anything, but are usually g,e,b flat and require complete rebuilding for each variation. That means going into the composer and changing each note of each chord in the entire measure to the proper c,e,g, configuration. Do that for each left hand instrument in each variation and after quite a few hours you MAY come up with a decent sounding style to use on the KN boards. In my opinion, the work isn't worth it. Most of the converted styles are middle of the road and not as clean as a Technics style. Your best bet is to go to the Roland and Solton user websites and download the Yamaha styles someone else converted to use on their keyboards, then convert them with your conversion disk. Much easier, less work.

Hi.

If it's the styles Merill would like to convert, it's not that big
problem using EMC software, the result is about the same as if you
convert from most others before any tweaking is done, some are not
good and some are fairly good. Some need more tweaking than others
and Yamaha often need a bit more adjustments.
There is still a lot of quick converted Yamahastyles to try out for
the KN's to find at the web.

I thought maybe it was some sequensed songs Merill asked about how
to convert, and I think maybe that's a bit different from pure style
converting.

Happy playing & Converting.

Hi Bud,

I was interested in your reply to Merill's posting. Wouldn't it be easier to use the 'ON BASS' feature of the KN7 with the converted chords or doesn't this work with the conversions?

Hi Audrey. To be honest, I've never tried that feature. Never even thought of it, so I can't say for sure if it will work with off-key chords, or not. However, what I didn't mention is the other little parts that don't always convert properly, such as a telephone ringing, a whistle blowing on the Latin conversions, doorbells, or odd raps and knocks that don't make sense. It's these tweaks that are necessary and time consuming when you're converting styles from other brands, and it's not always Yamaha that's to blame. Technics keyboards will select the closest sound possible when reading the data files, and sometimes things get pretty weird even when it's Technics to Technics files.
