Please forgive my english

Today I visited my local musical instruments store. I listened to the Technics sxp-50 and was simply amazed by the piano sound.

I was wondering how is the piano in the kn series? Is it the same technology or it's completely different? Is it an evolution over the sxp ? Do the keys are 'weighted' ?

Sorry those are dumb questions. I'm not a professional musician but I'm ready to invest in a quality keyboard.

the piano in the KN7000 is the identical technology but there are just detail differences in the implementation.

the p50 is bought by people wanting a stage piano with 88 keys weighted like a real piano, heavy at the bottom end and lighter and undamped at the top. The wave rom is used for a handful of high quality sounds, so without any backings built in, the 64 polyphony should never reveal any drop out.

the KN7000 has standard synthesiser 61 key plastic keys with aftertouch, with a rock solid 128 polyphony. The grand piano multi-sample is particularly good, but this machine is designed to do everything from style generation, multitrack sequencing, sound editing to digital audio generation, a complete digital workstation.

many professionls buy both, use the KN for backings and the p50 for its voices and as a midi controller for the KN.

Welcome to the Forum. I don't know much about the sxp-50, except that it's a portable piano, but I can tell you that the piano sounds on the KN7000 are superb. I believe the piano samples on the KN7000 are the same as those on the Technics pianos. However, the keyboards on the KN series are not weighted. They are touch sensitive and also have an after touch facility.

What about the older kn3000 ?
How it compares to the newer kn7000 ? I have seen a couple of used kn3000 selling on the web.

a good board in its day, but not really comparable to these new products now if you put them side by side.

older means old technology and old (read small) samples. i think the kn 3000 must be more than 6 to 8 years old so . . . .

ok so the price difference does not make it worth it.

I know this is not the right forum but what's your opinion on the Yamaha P80 and Kurzweil sp88 ?

The cheaper is the Kurzweil sp76 semi weighted.

Is there a big difference between the semi-weighted keyboards and the full weighted ones? I mean semi is still acceptable right?

hey! I've played on all three and let me tell you the sample on the Kurz is terrible. The P80 is nice. However the P-50 IMHO has a better sample. Play the upper register of the p-50 and you can hear the sypathetic resonance of the OTHER strings. It is BAD ASS! PLus the P50 is Multi Timbral. Hi. Just a comment from small Denmark - so far away.
I bought the kn7000 and would join that with the 6000 on jobs, where I earlier had kn6000 + Korg sp100 - but after a couple of jobs my kn6000 stayed at home and I brought my "damned" heavy sp100 along. I missed the weighted keys and the special feeling of playing the piano.
But I've never had a better keyboard than the 7000 - so just join the club
