Just a note to anyone planning to buy a new PC. Be sure to check it out in advance to determine if it includes a floppy disk drive! Some of the new computers are leaving the FD drive out and including just a CD-R drive. But some of the more elaborate ones now also include a built-in reader for SD cards and/or other of the newer storage devices (such as digital camera cards, etc.) to replace the FD. I recently purchased a new laptop and didn't realize it had no FD. Fortunately my desktop does have a floppy disk drive so I can still copy the ZIP files sent on the Forum and e-mails from BEBOP and others to a floppy for use in my 7000. But if I have downloaded them to my new laptop, I have to re-send them to myself to collect them later on my desktop for opening them and saving them to a floppy. Guess the FD will one day be obsolete just like videotapes are being repaced by DVDs! I am having trouble keeping up with this new electronic world!!!

Years ago I had a laptop with built in floppy drive and dvd rom and bought an external plug-in cd writer to use with it... which got used all the time.

Now I have a laptop with dvd writer built in and it is supplied with an external plug-in floppy drive! ... which never gets used

ps just get a usb flash card reader and use that as a transfer medium. Better still get networked, wires are cheap, I'm wireless because it's just so convenient.

Ted,

Several months ago, Dell annouced that they would no longer be putting floppy disk drives in their computers. I ordered a laptop just before that and had to have the floppy drive installed as an add-on with extra charges for it.
My music dealer did mention last week that the move in keyboards is starting toward CD burners being installed. Should be a model out shortly. I don't remember which one. Ah, technology!

Hi Ted,
I've actually got a couple of card readers attached to my computers ( a Panasonic and a cheap one) and use a spare sd card for transferring files between the laptop & PC One would have been enough , but to save plugging and unplugging I decided to get a cheap second one.
They also come in handy as I don't use floppies anymore in my KN7, only the sd card. It's so much faster loading files and no disk swapping.

best wishes

Thanks for all your comments. I guess I am old fashioned enough to still be using my floppies for copying ZIP files and then transferring them to my 7000. The files I want to retain, however,I then transfer to the SD card in the keyboard for future reference. I just wanted my Forum friends to be aware (as I was NOT!) that floppy disk drives were being removed from some of the new computers, so you wouldn't have to buy an external FD after you bought a new computer and discovered, after the purchase, the omission of the FD. It seems that, no matter what device one buys these days, it is obsolete even before you get it home!! I am already wondering when Technics will be coming out with a 7500 or 8000???

Hi Ted,
Thanks for the heads up on the floppy. I'm with you - ugh!! Technology.
