Just a word of caution about file compatability between KN5000 and KN7000.... If KN5000 Style files have been saved as '.RCM' files, ie as a single load of 20 Custom styles, the KN7000 will NOT recognise this file. The KN7000 uses a '.CST' file for this purpose and the two are not compatible. However, if the KN5000 style files have been saved individually in '.CMP' format, they should load OK in to the KN7000. The only way around this problem, if it exists, is to copy all the files in the KN5000 Custom memory to Composer and then save them to floppy disc, but of course you need a KN5000 to do this and it's quite a long process. If you are considering upgrading from KN5000 to KN7000 and have any of your own styles or commercial style discs, which are in '.RCM' format, then if you wish to retain them for use on the KN7000, convert them to '.CMP' format, before parting with your KN5000 ------------------ Willum

Hi,
Yeah luckily I'd seen an earlier topic about that, and went through the interestingly long process of copying them all to the composer!
In reply to Bebop, after completing study there myself, I've spent the good part of the last 3 years as a teacher in the Technics Music Academy - not sure if it exists outside of the UK, but it's a music school run alonsgide registered Technics dealers across the UK. Pupils are taught te rudiments of music theory and practise, as well as developing familiarity with Technics eyboards and their features. With my time there, it enabled myself to be (pretty much) at the forefront of the new models, as the school would often be sent information about the upcoming releases, as well as demonstration units.
Sadly, because of study commitments, I've now had to move to London - but by going through the Academy when purchasing my KN7000 it meant I got a pretty good deal, £1100 for a brand new unit, part-exchanged with the KN5000.
Its the 920/5000 that I'm probably the most competent on, at least till I get my head round the 7000! But if anybody has any problems, of course I'd be happy to help!

Being 5 part patterns, what happens to the "extra" part offered by the 7000, are they kept as blank?
I can't wait to get my new board, and having 5 years experience in the Technics keyboard industry, I look forward to being able to give anybody else sound advice!

Tim Hi Smithy! I'm a "Junior Member" like you, but won't see the screen side of a KN7000 for quite a while. I probably don't need to remind you that you can get back all those great styles from the KN5000 which are missing on the new machines. I was looking for the Fast and Slow Ragtime styles on my KN6500...gone! Technote has come to the rescue again with their 5000 Reprise series. Marvellous stuff! Neil
