Because Technics KN files consist of multiple files (with different extensions: CMP, LSW, PMT, SQT, TM, etc), the file's 'name' must be exactly the same for each of these multiple files.

Is there by any chance a PC 'freeware' utility which would allow you to 'rename' the entire file set name (multiple files: up to 7) all at once, without having to rename each one individually, one at a time?

I realize that the 'EMC styleworks' software program already supports this function, but was curious if any freeware utility might be able to accomplish this task as well? Thanks, - Scott

Is there one of you computer experts who can explain briefly and simply the difference between all of these types of files? Why does each song for the keyboard need all of these files for ONE song? (I hope this isn't a totally nutty question but I am computer illiterate! )

Hi Ted: Checkout Alec Pagida's excellent description of 'Technics KN file extensions', and what each of them do' at: http://home.no/gunnar-jonny/bobs/alecs.htm MANY thanks to our buddy Gunnar Jonny for hosting this on his terrific Technics site: http://home.c2i.net/gjgotaas/

Unfortunately I wasn't able find the answer to 'my thread topic question' (renaming KN files via your PC) at that site so I"m hoping someone can answer this as well.

Scott

Scott, there are various freewares available from tucows and related sites for this job. Wim Kersten did a great program for copying the files to floppy.

Here is my personal favourite batch renamer: http://www.musicsucks.com/CKSoft/CKRename/index.htm

does everything you need just dandy, with complete control over all batch renames. If you like it send him a mail to say thanks, and a couple of dollars, it is free.

and thankyou for the plug
and thanks Gunnar for his site

I use Windows Commander, a shareware program that can rename files that way. I does a lot of other things too. I use it instead of Windows Explorer for copy, rename, move, zipping etc etc etc.

I have used WIndows Commander to change a group of files at once from the KN6000, it does make it a lot quicker and easier.

Here is the address for that program
