Just received an e-mail from "Microsoft" saying I needed to install the attached file as a final protection from viruses.

The attachment is named "Installer9.exe".

Has anyone had any experience with this one to know whether or not it is a good one?

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry g

A WARNING I recieved from a well know source:

Bogus Windows Security Update E-mail Bears New Worm

"A new worm taking advantage of Windows users anxious to get their hands on security updates began making the rounds on Thursday, several anti-virus firms confirmed. The worm, which goes by a variety of names -- including Swen, W32/Swen@MM, Gibe, and W32/Gibe-F -- can pose as an e-mail from Microsoft bearing a bogus security update as a file attachment."

PS...Microsoft NEVER sends personal emails for updates, fixes, patches, etc. So never ...ever... open an attachment from Microsoft. It is always bogus, and it is always Bad news for your computer.

Use Windows Update instead !

I mailed your post about 7 AM this morning, out to everyone on my email lists that are not marked specifically send music files only at their request. Those people do not get any info files or anything else from me. Their choice

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I finally got the point never to accept anything from Microsoft offering an "update" regardless what the name of the file is. I deleted the e-mail and am thankful for all the info we get concerning this subject.
