Hi, i tried to search for this problem and couldn't find any
relevance on this forum.
I have a Yamaha PSR295 keyboard connected to my PC via USB.
Everything goes well when playing in two way except for the styles.
If i play any style on the keyboard like the regular 8beat or other,
all i hear on the PC is lousy piano notes instead of the actual
sound font being played on the keyboard.
I tried a lot of stuff like using sequencers or sound fonts yet i
failed.
How can i have the style and its acmp played correctly on my pc?
Please help

Oh yes... Forgot to mention.
I am using Creative SB Audigy (supposed to be one of the best) and my
OS is Win XP and my PC is newly upgraded.

The simple answer is it's not possible, because the 295 voices are different quality samples to those in your PC sound card.
Your USB to PC is sending midi note data not Audio.

Thanks Graham, so i guess my only way around is have an equivalent soft instrument on the PC so that i can hear the right note...
How about banks and channels, none of these if configured could help?

Your PSR295 is likely using XG sounds in it's tone generator, while your computer synth is likely a GM synth. The easiest workaround is to get an SYXG50 soft synth module for the comp, or a use soundfont player and d/l the freeware soundfont "Another XG soundfont".

Thanks but i search to find out that the SYXG50 is phased out and no longer in use! I read something about Yamaha MU15 but not everyone appreciate it.

By the way, just a reminder, all other notes are being played correctly, it is only the Rhythms or Styles that give me the hard time.

When your PSR-295 is playing an accompaniment it sends some useful data to your PC, but it doesn't send everything. If you look at the MIDI data your PC is receiving you'll see that each note has a channel assigned to it. After recording that data you must assign the proper instrument to each channel. Generally speaking, you've got to do this for channels 9 through 15 for most of their styles.

If you don't assign an instrument, you get the default: a piano.

The keyboard's just not sending what instrument it's using for each channel. It's up to you to figure that out. Why? I don't know, and Yamaha won't say.

You may be right, but I still have my doubts. One problem common to many Yamaha boards is that they use numbers 1-128 for midi control while GM standard is 0-127.

Well, I have a PSR-295 sitting right here next to me, attached to my computer, and that's what it does. You're correct about patch assignments, but the piano's happening because it's the default.
