i'm VERY new to midi but would like to learn. I want to be able to change programs on my alesis 8.0 and alesis nano synth from my alesis 8.1,but have all the keyboards seperate from each other.does that make sense,and can that be done ? THANKS for any help!!!

I'm afraid there is no way to do what you want to do without a MIDi interface and a MIDI sequencer program for your PC.

Otherwise all you can do is:

1. MIDI OUT of the QS8 into MIDI IN of the QS 8.1 and MIDI THru of the 8.1 into IN of the nano synth. That's the best way to connect if you don't have a MIDI interface and you want to control the QS 8.1 and a nano synth from your QS 8.

However, you will not be able to send JUSt the program changes because Alesis synths don't allow you to set a separate MIDi channel just for program changes. Also, in that configuration you wil have to turn off the Local control on your QS 8 (otherwise you wil layer it's internal sound with either the nano synth or a the QS 8.1).

Few things you wil need to adjust as you are switching between all three. Set the QS 8.1 to MIDI channel 2 and the nano synth to MIDi channel 3.
iF you want to play the QS 8.1 all you have to do is set the MIDi channel of the QS 8 to MIDI channel 2. Set it to 3 if you want to play the nano synth. Set it to 1 and turn the Local control of the QS 8 to ON if you want to play just the QS 8.

Google for sites that explain the basics about MIDi and MIDI connections. It wil clear up a lot of stuff that seems confusing right now. Things are actually much simpler than they seem at first.
