Can anyone explain how to assign effects, filters, etc. onto the 305's modulation lever? I've been staring at the thing for a year, now, and can't make it work.

Thanks!

I thought I was the only one.

I've searched the manuals inside and out and havn't found a thing on it. I even thought I bought a defective Synth. Its out for repairs now (memory swiped clean for no reason)thats another topic all together.

anyway I'm gonna check w/Roland and see if I can get a definitve answer. E-mail me if you get anywhere with it.

Someday I'll take a week off work and sit on hold with Roland. Until then, any help you can pass on will be greatly appreciated!

Just read the manual :-)
You can assign the mod lever
to up to four different patch parameters,
including Cutoff, Resonance, Pitch, Amp
and LFO parameters. Press [Patch]
then [edit] and the [Control] button (next to
the LFO button down on the right of the panel). There you can scroll trough menus
to configure the Pitch bender, the mod wheel
and the aftertouch on each tone of your patch.

Unfortunately, you can't use any of those controllers to modify FX parameters...

Well, CDsp, here's what happens. (I figure you seem to know how this thing works. Your comment re: "RTFM" is well-taken, but this is the one point where the manual fails me.)

Turning to Page 76, the manual describes how to assign control destinations to the Mod lever. As an example, let's say I want to assign L1R to the Mod, and control the rate of the LFO from there. So, I start by assigning:

MOD: Control 1
MOD: Cntrl1 L1R/L1R/L1r/L1R.

Then I turn to page 77, and assign a big delta, say:

MOD:Cntrl1 Depth +63/+63/+63/+63.

Now I play the patch, and grab a big fistful of Mod Lever, and... squat. Diddley. Nada.

The manual make cryptic references to assigning the variables to each TONE (e.g. the comment at the very bottom of page 77 in the left column) but this is where the logical relationship of the parameters breaks down for me. When I try doing that, the LFO modulates ALL THE TIME instead of waiting for me to crank on the lever, and that's not what I'm after.

I'm having a Dread Brain Fart between assigning the Mod control (pgs 76/77) and getting the patches to respond. You've got to admit the manual is cryptic here. What is the correct procedure? Can you give me (us! ) a step-by-step? Pleeeeeze?!

Well, Teejay.
First, try another example. What you did
is assign the first LFO's RATE to
the Mod lever, so if LFO1 isn't used to
modulate anything in you're patch, you
won't hear any difference by changing it's
rate, right ?

I suggest you tried by initialising
a user patch with the usual procedure
(Utility + Initialize patch). Then assign
set Mod Ctrl 1 to Cut (Filter Cutoff)
with a value of -63. If you don't hear any
difference when pushing the lever, then something's wrong with your 305.

Have fun !
