Anyone know anything about Robin guitars...especially a double-neck with a Strat like lower neck and pick-ups and controls and an octive neck at the top?

I bought one of these things in the early 80's. Changed strings a few trimes and plugged it in three or four.

Saw on a site selling guitars that someone was asking about $4000.00 for one. Are they really that valuable?

Not trying to sell it...just curious.

Thanks,

Russ

Yea, Tony...it's the one Stevie Ray and brother are playing...the body on mine is red...otherwise, the same instrument.

I got this thing at a local store owned by a friend in 1983 or 4. I think the list was $1295, and I paid about $890.00 for it. The dealer bought what was required to be a stocking dealer (6 pieces), and I agreed to buy the double (I'm a double-neck nut) so he could justify the purchase. The line didn't move, and Carls stopped carrying it.

I got a Heritage Lite (like a Less Paul) the same way. The dealer wanted to try out the line, and I agreed to buy one of the pieces at cost to help out. That line didn't sell around here, either, but it is a superior quality instrument, and the line still exists.

Ah, big boys and their toys!

I'd never heard of these guitars before I read this thread. It sounds like you have a good investment there Russ. And how does it play and sound anyway ????

Hi, Nigel!

Actually, I bought this one as a lark, and have never used it on jobs; It is the quality of an American made cutom shop Strat.

It is the best balanced double-neck I've ever played.

The bottom neck is set-up a a conventional Strat and sounds like one, with three single-coil pick-ups and a 5 way switch.

The top neck is NEAT for high end lead. Has just one single coil, which is matched to the pick-ups on the bottom neck.

Really neat guitar, but not appropriate for what I play now. Would be great for any work where a Strat is appropriate.

One sold for $30,000-40,000 recently at the Eric Clapton charity auction. It was the one seen on the Robin site played by Jimmy and Stevie Vaughan. Pre-auction estimate was around $4000.00, but I believe that was because of the kind of auction.

This one is is in showroom condition, but I'd be very surprised if it would bring more than $2000.00, and that would have to be from a Robin collector.

I like it, but don't think it's a grreat collectors item.

Thanks for asking, Nigel!
