Went on a guitar buying kick recently. In the last month, I bought an Ovation nylon string, (Celebrity),an Ovation acoustic double (12 and 6 Celebrity)-(back-ordered), an Ephiphone Casino (like the Beetles played), a silver sparkle hollow Gretsch with Bigsby
(tacky, dosn't stay in tune...I LOVE IT!) and today I ordered a double-neck Gretsch Jett
(silver sparkle, two Bigsbys, baritone/six string tic-tack bass and regular six string)
Expect this will be tackier than the Electromatic, and I'll like it MORE. Will be delivered next Wednesday. Am talking with a custom builder about building a double with nylon on the top and steel on the bottom, with both piezo and humbucker at the (steel string) neck position.

That will be one I'll actually USE!

Ya "gotta love them toys!"

Keep on "pickin and grinnin".

Those Ovation Celebrity models are pretty nice. The deep bowl models are what I like best. One of my acoustics is an Ovation Celebrity CC-O26S (natural) with deep bowl. It's a nice sounding guitar

Yea, the Celebrity line seems like a good value. I had only owned one Ovation before...a nylon string, no cutaway, no preamp. This one is a shallow bowl, and I have been using it every night, playing instrumentals (4 or so a hour-alternating with the arranger). When I got it, I noticed the strap buttons, which I had never seen on a nylon string. First time I tried to play it sitting on my arranger bench, it slipped right off my lap! Didn't have a strap with me that night, but it works fine sitting with a strap adjusted a little higher than ideal.

Anxious to see the Celebrity double. It's been back ordered for over three months. The authorized dealer is a little shady. They first told me that the unit was "in stock", whatever that meant. Musician's Friend had the model in stock, but the dealer says that the one they had (they're back-ordered, too) was a proprietary model...slightly different red. Now they have my deposit and don't know when they'll have the guitar. I try to buy from local dealers, but if I don't get delivery before Musicians Friend has the unit, I'll cancel the order from the local jerks and get it there. Have had great luck with Musician's Friend, but have always felt better if I could inspect a wooden instrument before purchase.

The local dealer also carries Yamaha keyboards, and I'll be buying a digital piano soon. It won't be from them. I can't understand why taking care of customers and earning additional business instead of hussling is such a hard concept.

Oh well, it's THEIR Loss!

You guys like ovations?

I got one I bought in about 1978, I think? Its a beautiful guitar has a carved bridge and rod cover, its got the electrics, I've played it about 6 times. Its setting in its case like brand new, best neck of any guitar i've played, and the sound is beautiful, and it'll blow a d28 martin away in loudness. deep bowl--deep pot stomach, dosn't work, have to spin it to see what i'm doing. The dealer I bought it from said it was one of 27 that had some hand work done on them, because they were the first off line. and they passed them out to their dealers, he got two in, I was there when then came in, picked this one from the two and bought it. Have no idea what to do with it, cost 11 hundred bucks, ebay looks like about 600 bucks,"maybe" so I guess it goes to the end with me, kids probably will give it to the salvation army or something he he.

Bought it thinking I would use it for a occasional acoustic part on stage, tried it the day I bought it, sounded great, then I turned toward my fender dual showman amp, and almost busted every ear drum in the house. Unplugged it and its still in the case under the stairs.....I saw a rubber plug and bought it for the sound hole a couple of years ago, but have never tried it.

I can see why some like ovations, they play great and have very nice sound......pose
