Recorded the Grammys last night. Herbie Hancock did Leon Russells' "A Song for You", with Christina Agulara. Really never liked Christina, but have been a Herbie fan for years. What an innovative rendition of a great song! This is, I believe, a piece off of a new Herbie recording, which also has a song on it with John Mayer. Got to get this album today!

Sometimes, people trash modern music and younger players/performers. Believe me, the young talent is out there, big-time!

And that's GREAT!

(By "young" I obviously mean John and Christina. I believe Herbie had his 50th several years ago).

Fran, I always thought she was trashy and did material of questionable merit, but after last night, I'll be the first to admit
this girl's got LUNGS! (even though they're fake).

She sounded really good..much better than her Mousekateer buddy (ugh) Brittany or my former young singer female, favorite, Mariah Carey.

You're right, she's a talent.

I really like Christine's work and I especially like John Mayer. He is not only a great singer but plays inspiring guitar. He really has renewed my faith in young upcoming talent. I recently bought his Trio and Heavier Things albums and am really knocked out by his musical abilities.

Me, too, Nigel! Mayer also writes a monthly column for Esquire magazine. Check it out. He's a multi-talented kid, on and off the bandstand.

Also, Robert Randolf made a brief appearance on the last part of the Grammys. What an innovative use of a pedal steel (check him out Scott).I saw him on a PBS special, where he was performing with several old lap steel players from his church. He gave his teachers respect and appreciation. Strange "niche" kind of career, but he's really good, and evidently a fine person as well.

By the way, what was wrong with Sly Stone? He really didn't look good.
