John ... putting it simply, ALL TYPES ... well, I guess not ALL ... but MANY ...
Let's start with what I don't listen to - most of today's 'pop' stuff - 'bubble gum, rap, hip-hop, alternative' ... you get the idea ... even though some of it is very clever, or has a good message, it's just not what I want to listen to ...
As to what I DO listen to - wow, where to start? ... No doubt my favorite is the type of jazz played mostly by the great artists (many LATE, great artists)- Gerry Mulligan, Paul Desmond, Oscar Peterson, Brubeck, all that group - people who took the great American standards and made them their own, or wrote their own ...
Being 65 yrs old, I was raised on rock n roll, and still enjoy listening and playing it ...
While I was taking accordion lessons, I played and listened to a good amount of 'classical' music ...
Being Italian, I remember my grandfather playing his accordion, especially during the holiday season, and the whole family sitting around singing ... Italian music has been a great part of my life - even today I listen to a 2 hour program on Sunday mornings that features ONLY Italian artists and music ...
Of course, the great vocalists, Sinatra, Bennet, Ella, ... I LOVE Louis Prima ...
I enjoy some 'rock' artists such as Sting, U2, Eric Clapton, etc ... and several of the newer artists like Michael Buble, Diana Krall, etc.
I even enjoy some of the C/W artists - Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, Martina McBride ...
So I would say that my taste is pretty eclectic, but "mature"
...
On any given day, in my 5 disc player could be Brubeck, Bobby Darin, Elvis, Rossini, and Bocelli !!!
...
As for playing, the chops are no longer there for classical, the training and technique was never there for real jazz (although I do play 'jazz' tunes), so for playing and singing, it's the American standards, 'middle of the road' pop, light jazz, some Italian songs, and old time r 'n' r ...
... and you?!? ...
