I seriously don't know how some of you guys do it!

I've tried only meat and veggies, I just can't. Everytime I think I want to do it, then I go to lunch at the cafetaria they have this nice pasta primavera dang it!

I've done my part here and there like 20 mins walk everyday, gym probably once or twice a week (OK I know I have to do more), ONLY drink diet soda, I don't eat cookies...PROBABLY once every two weeks or even less, snacks are usually rice cakes, low fat corn crackers, or string cheese. Breakfast is usually quarter of an orange and cottage cheese.

Now, I'm not 'overweight' I think..I'm 5'8" 175lbs...(down 185 from last year) but this is from somebody who weighted 138 15 years ago! I think my 'ideal' weight should be around 165 although my doctor told me 155-160 is better...I can't imagine that!

OK I'm just talking about my diet that's all

Instead of Atkins, think about getting in the South Beach Program, which for many of us has proved quite effective.

As for your weight, your doctor is right--145 to 154 is what one of my charts says for a 5-foot, 8-inch male.

One of the bad things about Atkins is the extremely high fat content, and while Atkins claims will not cause problems, I personally, and several other people I know had significant increases in cholesteral while on Atkins.

South Beach, on the other hand, was created by a cardiologists because his patients were not getting better on the Amercian Heart Association Diet. South Beach is a low carb, high protein diet that is also low fat, low cholesteral and low sodium.

IT WORKS! In 6 months I lost 50 pounds, and went from 225 to 175. I'm just under 6-feet tall. Donny Pesce who is about your height began the program a month after me and he has dumped 64 pounds and continues to shad pounds every week.

You can find the South Beach Diet Book at most bookstores and it sells for about $17. If you follow the program and stay with the guidelines, you will loose lots of weight, your cardiovascular health will improve, you'll have lots of energy and those young girls will oogle you every place you perform. (Kinda' neat being oogled at my age!)

Good Luck,

Gary

KN_Fan Jonas: I agree with Gary on this one. The SouthBeach diet was developed by a leading cardiologist to improve the health of his heart patients, and the weight loss benefit a mere side benefit, but which has won him fame as many Americans seem more obsessed about their weight than their health. I know family members and friends who have not only lost a lot of weight with the SB diet, but are a lot healthier (lower colestral, low blood pressure, etc) as as result. That said, I lost 30 lbs on Weight Watchers about 5 years ago and have been able to keep most of the weight off thru a combination of the South Beach diet, Weight Watcher Point counting, and exercise. I've discovered regular (daily) cardiovascular EXERCISE (walking and/or treadmill) an IMPORTANT element to taking & keeping the weight off. Good luck. - Scott

Ah South Beach, yes I totally forgot about that!

Wow...145-154 for 5'8"?? I'd take 165 GLADLY!

I want to say one to two pounds a month (since the last time I went to my doc...probably about 6 mth ago). So, I have lost about 8-10 lbs. As you can see this is a really conservative and gradual weight loss. I know I think I can lose up to 1 lbs a week and still be considered losing weight the 'healthy' way and not depriving myself. By the way, I'm no means a diet expert, just relaying what I've read or heard from people. Plus, I think I've gained muscle also which is heavier than fat. I think couple years ago I couldn't even bench press 80lbs which is REALLY bad, but when I was at my fittest I could bench press almost my bodyweight and run the 1 mile in 8 minutes. These numbers are btw just my personal numbers and I'm not trying to prove anything, just using them as motivation.

Oh...I'll DEFINITELY take on Gary's advise: Think of being oogled by lovely girls, if that doesn't motivate me I don't know what will!
