A beautiful, desparately poor girl named Bread came from the mountains of Kentucky to Lexington to make money to support her starving family. She went to a popular hotel in Lexington and began practising "the worlds oldest profession". At first, the other girls were jealous of Bread, but she was so sweet that everyone really liked her. The other girls suggested that she was working way to much and she was endangering her health.

Bread's family was so desparate that she worked round the clock.

Finally, she died. All her friends, co-workers and customers contributed to a fund for a grave marker. The inscription was:

"BREAD CANNOT LIVE BY MAN ALONE"

Poor thing!
