I am very disappointed to learn that floppies don't seem to be made now. This means that in the future I will not be able to record with my PSR550. Is there a solution? Someone thought it might be possible to replace the floppy drive with a CD drive or a USB. She said the wiring inside is the same set of wires.
Does anyone have any info on this please?

You can buy quite cheaply an external floppy disk drive that plugs into the USB socket.
Infact Yamaha supplied one with the PSR3000.

Who is 'She'?

CD drives tend to use IDE.

Floppies do seem to be slowly disappering, however a quick Google search found this (I assume you are located States side):

Thanks Graham.
my problem is not the lack of a floppy drive, but the lack of floppy disks. My PSR550 has no USB port.

I think your only solution for the PSR550 is to simply buy yourself a bunch of floppy disks while they still can be obtained and keep them just for your keyboard. While they can be hard to find I did find a seller on ebay.com.au based in Mt Waverly (because I know you are based around Melbourne Australia ) that is selling 120 disks with starting bid of AU$19.99. If I were you I would grab some of these while you can. The seller seems to have good feedback so looks reliable. And you probably have a good chance of winning this item because the seller won't post, local pickup only which limits the number of people that would bid on it. And he is only a short drive from where you live.

To ThesonicEnergyAuthority,
Why would you assume a poster was stateside.
There IS a world outside which is much larger than the closet you live in.

Dear Mr Saint..

I was only trying to help, wasn't able to guess where 'janhmelb' came from, and as the Synthzone site is US based I took my assumption from that.

If they are UK based, about the only place I saw any recently was in a Maplin's store.
Studiospares did do them, but no longer it appears.

I myself don't actually live in a closet..
I live in a little island, just off Europe, it's called the United Kingdom, perhaps you've heard of it?

To TheSonicEnergyAuthority,
My sincerest apology, I was out of order and do not normally say things like that.
I was a bit consumed with our tragic bushfires, of which some have been caused by arsonists, and took my anger out on you.
Yes, I have heard of such a place from three of my regular golf partners, who keep telling me about where they used to live. One follows M.U.,one Fulham and one Chelsea. Can you tell me what they are referring to?
For janhmelb from Melbourne, I was not aware that floppies are in short supply, I feel sure there are plenty in Sydney, and I will check and let you know.

Ray the Saint,

Apology accepted, and rest assured I'm sure many 'zoners' thoughts are with you regarding the bush fires in Australia.
It would be bad enough if it where a natural catastrophe, but it appears there are some sick souls out there.

I've a friend who's been living out in Oz for around 3 years now, he is located more towards the east coast, I'm hoping he and the family are ok.

Your golf chums are referring to a strange game where certain people are paid far too much money to kick a bag of air from one side of field to another. It's called 'football' some know it as 'soccer'.
I believe both American, and Australian 'Football' is different as their players tend to pick up the football. Surely then these games should be called 'handball'?

MU or Manchester United are a popular team, mostly with people who live no where near Manchester strangely. They seems to have a 'money no object' approach, and tend to win everything. I believe they are top of the premiership. As you can tell I'm not a follower of this football lark.
Fulham and Chelsea are 'London' teams. I do know Chelsea have just sacked their manager in the last few days. He still is expected to get £15M. Guess the 'credit crunch' doesn't apply to these people.

I feel we have gone way off topic..
So I shall end it here.

Cheers..
Paul Preston

And it looks like Jan is gonna win her low bid on those 120 floppy disks with only 3 hours to go. Best of luck Jan.
