I think this is pretty recent. Lots of different vehicles being developed for the US. Original Tuk Tuk's have been approved for sale by the DOT. Problem is, they start at $10,000.00, and you can get a small imported car (Kia Reo) for around $8,000.00. The one that's available now in the US is the ScootCoupe. It's mostly used for rental fleets at vacation sites. It's a 150cc three wheeled scooter-no top. No reverse. Passengers sit side by side. The company will have a 500cc version in a year or so. There's also the Auto Moto, a three wheeled tandem scooter with a windshield and a wiper.
The Tango, a small enclosed three wheeler from South America, had the most potential, but after lots of publicity and pre-orders, the plans to bring them into the country have been canceled. Heard that it was a financial issue involving the importer.
Americans who have never been off the continent would be amaised at the variety of small vehicles used in other parts of the world.
