In all my dreams I don't know the way home or to work. I only manage to get there when it's in plain sight. If not, forget about it. Whenever I have to go to work I get lost and when I arrive there's a blank on how I got there. Plus I'm always late. Yet I'm never late in real life. What could this possibly mean?

My Mom was into analyzing dreams before she passed away.

Take this with a grain of salt, but perhaps home and work represent two very different aspects of your life. The transition between the two could signify a loathing to either leave those places or travel to.

I don't recall most of my dreams at all...

I don't know, Bill. I like going home, especially after work. and I like where I'm working now. But I've been dreaming these kind of dreams since I was a kid.

I happen to remember almost all of my dreams. In fact, I often dream dreams I had when I was a little kid. And then there are the kind of dreams that make me think I'm either nuts or going nuts. The dreams that repeat themselves in the same dream, up to six times per dream. As soon as I've come to the end I start back from the beginning, over and over again. I had one like this every night for nearly three months. In the end I didn't even know whether I was awake or still in dreamland. Confused the heck out of me. I had another one of those repeating dreams that lasted for eight weeks. This all happened several years ago but I've been at it again lately. Same recurring dreams in ONE dream, up to three times a night for two weeks now. Yeah, I must be nuts!

You know, I can recall only ONE dreamless night and that was in 1968.

Taike

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

...Edgar Allen Poe

Scary, huh?

What is scary -well, not really- is that this poem came to mind when I had those dreams within a dream.

So did you, Chas, or anyone else have this happen a lot to you? And for such a long period of time? The same dreams within a dream -six times the same dream within a dream- for nearly three months?

Hey, bud. My father-in-law is an internationally known psychiatrist and educator.

Over the years, I helped edit lots of papers, articles and books for him (great doctor-terrible writer/speller).

According to the journals containing some of his work, yours is a kind of repetitive dream experienced by very committed, responsible people. It reflects your commitment to doing the right thing for both your family and on your job. It reflects your concern about not fulfilling your responsibilities on one end of the spectrum or the other, and your very strong commitment to doing so.

Nothing more! And, that's a GOOD dream to have, since it signifies the noble commitment you have to your family and others (our monk, for example).

Relax, friend...it's all GOOD!

Russ

Thanks, Russ Freud.

I've read several times that good dreams often mean negative things and bad dreams good things. This could possibly apply to my dreams-within-a-dream sessions but I could surely do without the repetiveness and keep my sanity. Or what's left of it.

When I had my 3-month session I really thought I was losing my mind. Night after night the same dreams and not pleasant ones either. They were about me escaping from "evil" itself. And that was several years before I got married.

From what I gathered -doing some research- such dreams most often occur when there's a lack of sleep which must be the cause since I was sleeping very little at the time being a night owl and all (3 hours a night which didn't bother me the least). I've since refrained from going to bed late although at times -usually during vacation periods- I lapse into my old behavior. Gosh, in Laos I'd be in bed between 8 and 9 PM.

Now some good news. Nok and Mapanoy should be arriving on the 15th. So I've taken the "Tiger Woods" precaution. Calling my other flames and have them delete me from their phone list. KIDDING!!!

I'll keep you posted, Russ.
