Does anyone have a link to a freeware MIDI player (for computer) that will send MIDI data to my keyboard?
I want to try the Tyros MIDI files on my PSR540 (no problem, it has a disc drive) and my Roland EM20 (no disc drive), but I have MIDI joystick to MIDI port connectors, just need software.
Thanks

Judging from the joystick-Midiport comment you made, I assume you have a PC. If so, you don't need any software to play the midi files on your keyboard. Depending on which version of Windows you have, under Control Panel you can change your Multimedia settings so that your Midi Output device is your default Midi player. You can then use Media Player in Windows to play the midi files. In fact, just double-clicking on the file should make it play your keyboard.

The Pro, Thanks. Yes I do have a PC running Windows 95. It's that simple? Thanks for the info will try it out this weekend.

Dnj, Does Van Basco's Karaoke Player have an options parameter to play through the MIDI joystick port or through the computer speakers?

Thank you both for your replies.

I changed the default MIDI device in the media player and played the Tyros shoot out MIDI file and it played perfectly.
Thanks again The Pro and Uncle Dave.

Only problem is that when I played a full blown file with drums and accompaniment the Roland went into record mode, recorded one of the channels, and changed the voice on the display. The same thing happened when I tried the Real-Time Style performer. Sounds like the Roland EM20 doesn't like one of the channels being used. Any thoughts?

It sounds more like the Roland doesn't like the midi program changes, control changes or system exclusive messages that could be imbedded in the midi files you are playing. This happens a lot if you play other people's midi files or those off the web. You might try using a sequencer program to strip out unwanted midi commands from the files.
