The 855 is crisp, clear and has a very hot signal. Very close to a condenser mic. It is noticeably brighter than the 835-45.

Tony,

There is a major difference between the E-855 and the 835. The super-cardiod pattern alone makes it worth the extra money. However, having tried both the E-855 produces superior vocal qualities, covering a wide range of frequencies and providing outstanding clarity. I have an E-855 for studio work and it's excellent.

The best handheld mic I have is a Samson Q-7, which is relatively inexpensive and it actually sounds better (IMO) than my E-855. I've seen them as low as $69 on some internet music sites--check it out.

Good Luck,

Gary

Gary....in all the years that I have been singing professionally, I have always used a Shure of one type or another...hell, I even used the old big Shure that weighed about 5lbs or so it seemed and was about 4 inches square....all of my studio and recording work was done with studio mics and until recently, I never thought about another brand of mic. The industry standard was always good enough for me....then I started reading the posts here and started thing, well, I'm getting older and the voice is starting to change or go, depending on how you ask , and I thought about getting a new brand, hell, I thought I done good until I started reading again...
man, all this hi-tech stuff has me baffled. Thanks Gary....maybe I'll just stick with what I got remembering the old adage...if it ain't broke, don't fix it....

Just a quick note. I have been using the Sennheiser 835 for about 2 years. I was having some problems with feedback on my Bose PAS system, so after reading the posts here purchased an EV N767...still feedback problems (although with the EV there is no switch to turn off). I have just upgraded the Bose with the newest software release...set the mic preset to "10" and amazingly enough not only is the feedback gone but I have never heard myself sound clearer...not necessary better...just a whole lot clearer. Once again, kudos to Bose and thanks to this group for the EV suggestion.
