Scott,
I'm not certain you can compare the Tyros 2 sounds and styles against SD1. To my knowledge you spent a very limited time auditioning the SD1
Hi Don, In fact, I actually spent, and on several separate occasions, a number of HOURS auditioning the SD1, because, I seriously, wanted to fall in love with this instrument.
In fact, right after I purchased Tyros1, which included a 30 day risk free return trial period, I even auditioned it and the SD1, 'side by side', at my local Ketron dealer.
There were actually many things I liked about the SD1: specific sounds & styles were very impressive, especially those LIVE audio drum loops, 76 keys with real nice keyfeel, and the lightest weight smallest form factor 76 note arranger out there, but the SD1 sounded too boomy (muddy?) & in your face, even after tweaking the EQ levels, for my taste & performance venue style, and the navigation (with identical buttons lined up in identical rows) appeared more of a daunting navigation challenge than I was willing to take on. I realize that keyboard sound & feature preferences are a matter of personal taste & personal playing requirements, and that what's best by Musician A may not be for musician B, so my comments were only my opinion.

OK Don, you're 1/2 right
I actually heard it 'played' over the telephone (Skype) by a fellow Tyros musician whom I highly RESPECT, and from what I clearly heard (with my 2 ears 'live'), and the follow up discussions we had, I'm convinced that Tyros2 offers a dramatic sound + features improvement over Tyros1, of which I'm already admittedly partial too.
Don, whether you end up liking the Tyros2 better/less than the SD1 isn't really so important. I've always admired your musicianship, and expressive singing & keyboard playing style, on whatever keyboard you happen to play: from KN5000, Ketron X1, PSR9000, Tyros, and now SD1. As Donny (DNJ) has stated repeatly here: music comes #1 from our soul. The keyboard is merely a tool to express our feelings, coming from our heart.
That said, I'm anxious as ever to hear what Ketron has to offer on their next arranger keyboard, as I pay no allegiance, or have no financial interest with any specific keyboard manufacterer, including Yamaha. I guess I just happen to prefer the Yamaha sound 'right now'. - Scott
